I took these yesterday at the ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals. It was my first time at a NHRA event, what an experience!

Nice series. I like the angle of the Army car in the pits. I was out there on Friday and today. Still processing photos, will put some up tomorrow.

What section where you in?

Great shots, especially that first one of Rod and Melanie. Quite a bit of drama out there for that Top Fuel shoot-out. Now it's time for some finals at Pomona!

wow, nice shots....these are the types of shots i want to learn to take...

are you moving the camera left and right while you try to snap the pics?

how come in one of the shots the ads on the cement wall/divider are blurry? that means you were moving the camera side to side, right?

thanks and nice pics!!!

Yes, he is moving the camera, following the subject as he takes the picture. It is a technique called "panning". If you're interested do a search, there's all kinds of threads here about panning.

Thank you all for the responses.

I started off in section L about two thirds the way up...that was too far away to get any decent shots off the line. I moved over to the general admission area but the barricade is in the way unless you can get into the bleachers. I would have liked your 100-400 lens for the day.

As justincase said, I am panning with a shutter speed of 1/250 in most of the pictures. This isn't the easiest thing to do when the cars move at 300+ miles per hour. Fire off five shots and hope you get a keeper. :D

I heard today that they raced well into the evening on Friday night, I hope you post some shots from after the sun went down.

Edit: I see you already posted 'em.
