You can use a UNIVERSAL remote if you wanted.... it is nice to have the small footprint of the remote.. I picked up the RC-5 under the impression that it does the instant shutter and the 2-second delay, I can only do the 2-second delay... Haven't been able to do a instant shutter release yet.

there is a switch on the back of the rc-1 i'm wondering if that's how you set the time.
I'll mess with it and find out

Ahhh. no switch on the RC-5.. I guess I'm not getting a non 2-sec delay... Oh well.. not a biggie.. I guess I'll just make a wired remote for that then... Not that hard.. Just have to find the right switch... 3 position...

yeah on this one it has a switch with 3 postions and i've figured how to use them.
button all the way at the top, is the 2 second delay
in the middle, shutter release as soon as you let off the button
3rd i think is off, it doesn't do anything
now to take a shot where you can click it to take the pic as long as you want. you have to set the camera to M mode and set the shutter to bulb. now you can hit the button once, on the 1st or 2nd switch, and then it will take the pic after counting to 2. then click the button again and it will close the shutter.

i got the rc-1 for $30 at a local store
i think it's worth little bit of cash so many uses for it

I have the RC-1 too, works great on my EOS 30 (Elan 7E) but for some $*&@# reason Canon didn't include the receiver for it on the 10D..... that's one feature the 300D has which the 10D has not.

Yeah it "hoovers" big time that the 10D has no wireless remote capabilities built in. You have to add this kludgy chunk that perches in your hotshoe, with a cord to your remote relese socket, and that's the receiver for the wireless remote control. I believe this is the same unit for all Canon digital SLRs "above" the 300D.

I have the hex codes for the DRebel (which works on some other Canon cameras, but I guess not the 10D.) I've thought about having a batch of keychain IR remotes made with the 2 second and instant shutter button. I think I could make them and be able to sell for around $10 each and you could just stick it on your keychain. I have the signals in my Philips Pronto and they work perfectly... from the Pronto I can program any universal remote.
Anyways when I find out if I can make the keychain remotes for under $10 or less I'll let you guys know. Canon can't complain because you can't patent an iR hex code (if so you wouldn't be able to buy universal remotes!)

Yes and the connector for the remote control on the 10D has to be connected with Canon's proprietary N3 plug, instead of a standard plug. So if you want a remote control for the 10D, you have to buy it from Canon, because nobody else makes remote controls with a Canon N3 connector........ :(
