Recently returned from a trip to my favorite place on earth...Outer Banks , NC. Pelicans are one of my favorite birds there and I always seem to try to get this same shot. Usually the sun gets blown out as it's too high by the time some pelicans fly by but this one turned out to my liking. It was taken with the Sigma 50-500 @ 500.

Thanks for the compliments. And Maddog12.....what an understatement about heaven on earth.....its even more :D. I am always so sad to leave and usually feel that way for about 3 weeks after. Right now I am wishing I was there so much.

Nice capture Michelle!! My time spent there always seems to short . Probably my favorite place to shoot. Hope you get back there soon.

Love the shot. Great timing with the pelicans.

The OBX is also one of my favorite places, although I'm a Hatteras Island person myself...

Hey Michelle, this is one of the best pictures I have seen. Its poignant.
Also, how did you manage to get the picture of sun without any flares?

Thanks so much everyone for the very nice compliments!! It's put a smile on my face this morning :D :D. I do enjoy all of the Outer Banks but we always stay in Nags Head at the Blue Heron Motel where I've been staying for the last 10 yrs. We did spend one night on Cape Lookout this time though and that was fun.

enjoy.... I think just the angle of the lens and how low the sun was still is what caused no flares....thats why I was suprised I was able to get a shot like this! :D

No wonder your sun looks so hugs ... your 500 translates to about a 750 on your XTi .. it's a GORGEOUS shot! Love the pelicans ... without them it would be ... well ... the sun.
