I used a 1gb card for months with no problems.

Its quite possible there wasn't a 1GB card available when the G3 manual was printed.....or at least one in mass production.

G3 can handle the FAT32 format in Compact Flash, and I think the upper limit of those is 2^32 of 512 byte sectors or 2,199,023,255,552 bytes = 2 Terabytes = 2000 Gigabytes.
You won't have to worry about capacity for a while. :P
Your G3 should be able to use almost all of the larger format CF cards that will come up in the next 20 years so.

I got my G2 bundled with a 1gig IBM microdrive 'Microdrive edition' long before the G3 was even unveiled.
Best regards,

They are coming with cards that have more and more space so fast the manuals can be outdated quickly!
