Pekka,
I was wondering who you are using to host these galleries. They serve up very quickly. I thought at one time you were using Nexpoint Technologies, Inc. (http://www.ntidesign.com/cobaltspecial.php)
Their packages seem very resonable.
Is any one else using them? Any other suggestions to host my site?
Thanks,
-Mark Childers

I'm using ICD Soft (http://www.icdsoft.com/) to host my EE gallery website. Seems to work fine and not very expensive.

Any feedback on the nexpoint tech hosting? http://www.ntidesign.com/index.html
Their price is reasonable. What about reliability and speed? I called them and they told me that photography-on-the.net and studio-on-the.net are not their client.
Pekka, which one are you using now?
Thanks,
Sean

This server is a dedicated server (1GHz AMD, 512MB/20GB/Linux ) from http://www.rackshack.net/
I do not recommend Cobalts unless you can get at least 512MB ram into them. In any case normal "white boxes" are faster and more expandable.

I had problems tryng to get the EE setup program to run on Affinity Web Hosting Servers. Pekka had a great tip to upload info.php to your web server, and view the PHP and MySql from your browser ulr. This will show what your web host server is running. I found that Affinity did not have the proper PHP configured the way EE needs to be configured and Affinity Technical Service was not about to help me. So I pulled my Domain from Affinity and canceled service with them.
I found a great hosting company that provides every thing you need along with the correct PHP and MySql running on their servers. OC12HOST.COM company works by e-mail. You order your service on-line. There help desk is very prompt at your questions and they have a very nice easy to use web base control panel. There prices are easy on your wallet. You will be please with there service.
Try OC12HOST at - http://oc12host.com

The whole purpose of Cobalt appliances is ease of use with all the admin stuff done with the browser. I would recommend them to EE use.
I you want to configure everythis on command line in the old school Unix style ;) I would recommend the new Sun Cobalt LX50 which is a general purpose Linux server with 2x 1.4Ghz CPU's etc...

Of course. They are easy to use and maintain. I was merely commenting about server speed (how much it can deliver). CPU power and disk speed is critical in heavy database/PHP applications, if you server for large numbers of clients. There normal +1Ghz Linux boxes are really good (price/perf. ratio).

Hmm... There are Cobalts with 1.26Ghz CPU's. How fast do you need..
