LeesaB

I guess the only funny part is that someone would be dumb enough to publish it in an open forum. Like 31,000 people did not just read that OMGOSH...

I mean I've done some stupid stuff on here but COME ON...
and then...if someone does just a search for your name...all that crap comes up for years and years..Like I still see stuff from 2004. ARE you kidding. It's like a bad credit rating, it takes years to go away.

Dig deep enough you can get all you need..

Hi guys.

We got home from lunch, then ran right back out again.

Sounds like fun things have been going on today, but as always, I'm clueless.

We're getting ready to pack up the vehicle and head out to Northern California for a couple days, so I expect I'll be somewhat scarce.

Make sure one of you tucks Lisa in.;)

Tooth out, face sore and numb at the same time. I'm taking a much needed rest for a few hours and then back to being mommy. Piano lessons and science fair this afternoon. I am bringing my 5D, but I doubt I will be in much of a mood to take a lot of pictures. Sat. looks like rain, so we may have to change the pre-wedding shoot.

OOo that doesn't sound fun :(

Kathy H
2nd of April 2008 (Wed), 18:36
No that does not sound fun at all.
Everytime I have to have anything done at the dentist I question if it would have been more pleasant to just get dentures when I was about 10 years old!
My teeth are pretty good, but I am bad at yearly checkups, so I usually don't go until I have a problem, then they find more problems.

SuzyView
2nd of April 2008 (Wed), 18:40
You know, my Dentist, Dr. Har, is quite amazing. He said, "A little pressure, a little more." And out it came. After about 10 minutes for the shot to work, it took about 1 minute for him to get the tooth out and that was it. One thing about him I noticed right away when we met was how strong he was. For him, it seems effortless to do these things. I'd faint and throw up if it were me. :(

kja
2nd of April 2008 (Wed), 19:00
Hell, I about threw up and fainted just reading your description!

I suck at going to the dentist. Last time he finally suggested that he just put me under a general and do what needed to be done - and I didn't need anything more than a clean and a filling! I did it and am so glad I did - no stress, no pain. For me, the risk was worth it. Now we'll see about next time!

So is everyone keeping busy?

Kathy H
2nd of April 2008 (Wed), 19:13
I am keeping busy with spring sports right now. It's fun when the dumb wind isn't blowing!

How about you? Keeping busy?

kja
2nd of April 2008 (Wed), 19:17
Yeah, been having some interesting things fall into my lap and doing a few family portraits etc.

First wedding on 19 April. Only one booked so far during the rest of 2008 - oh well.

My real job has entered the crazy insanely busy season now, too, so I'm pretty much flat out most days.

Kathy H
2nd of April 2008 (Wed), 19:25
Sounds like you're keeping busy.

My real job always keeps me hopping and interfers with my fun job!

You have been doing families? Lets see some shots!:D

kja
2nd of April 2008 (Wed), 19:36
Hehehe - you can check out my new blog, which I am desperately behind on at www.kjaphotos.blogspot.com or you can click the blog link from my newly revamped web site www.kjaphotos.com :)

I just got the shopping cart up and running, too, so I am getting there. Once I get more of the galleries up, I'll pass on the link...right now I only have the January bikini wedding (access gallery code TJ040108 ) and two portrait sessions (JS190308 and MF151207) in there.

So much to do!

Kathy H
2nd of April 2008 (Wed), 20:38
Kristin that is some great stuff!

You are so lucky to have a beach to photograph people at. The shots are very nice, full of a lot of fun and happiness.

I LOVE the bird shots, you have really got an eye for that. The emu is hilarious! The one with the birds head in the flower is wonderful!

You also captured some very good shots of the dogs, you can almost tell what they're thinking!

GREAT work girl!

kja
2nd of April 2008 (Wed), 20:49
Aww, shucks ;) Thanks for the very kind words!

I'm learning a lot and having a great time. Still not enough time in the schedule to play and I haven't found much time to work on promotion...must get to that and generate some more income!

Kathy H
2nd of April 2008 (Wed), 21:33
You do a great job!

I hear ya on the lack of time. I have so much going on with my real job right now, I can't find time to work on my photo business at all and it is really getting to me. I want to go out and just play shoot and my real job really gets in the way!

kja
2nd of April 2008 (Wed), 21:34
I hear ya on that. Where is that darned money tree when you need it? LOL

You're getting out and shooting sports, you said, though, right?

Kathy H
2nd of April 2008 (Wed), 22:30
I am shooting sports. It's mostly the stills though, like the team and individuals. I have went to a few softball games and done a bit of action. This time of year is pretty slow in the photo area. No weddings yet because the weather this time of year here is lousy. No seniors, they are done for this year and next years don't usually start until June. No holidays for people to want family or kids photos. Just kind of blah.

I am hoping to go to a ghost town this weekend and take some pics.

kja
2nd of April 2008 (Wed), 22:32
The ghost town sounds cool! Can't wait to see the photos!

I keep thinking I'm going to head out to our "sports" here but I never get around to it. It's all very low key stuff here and nothing really organized or promoted. But I should get out there for some practice on action stuff.

Kathy H
2nd of April 2008 (Wed), 22:40
It's called a ghost town, even though people still live there. I am looking for a link to it and I'll show you

Travel day. We'll be in the car all day. Hopefully when I put my head on the pillow tonight, I'll be roughly 500 miles north of here.

I hope all you lovely people are doing well. Suzy, I really hope you didn't wake up with a sore face. Extractions have a tendency to be a little worse the day after. Thank goodness for plentiful, powerful drugs.A couple years ago I had a tooth pulled, and a root canal performed on the adjacent tooth, all in the same session. That was a rocking good time.:lol:

I'm off to face the world of $3.75 regular gas and dirty bathrooms.

Check with you tonight.:rolleyes::lol:

Dentists are a "cake walk" :) 3 years ago I had my nose rearranged as part of dealing with a spot of skin cancer on the tip of my nose...14 shots of Novocain in my nose...I had tears streaming down my cheeks...it just plain hurt like the dickens :( The good news is that it all gone now and my wife likes my "bobbed" nose look :)

I dropped the "give away" Canon T80, 2 lenses, the flash, and the Canon bag off in the mail last night to a fellow POTNer in Utah...he is going to give it to his daughter for use in a HS photography class next year...they are required to use film. I am so glad it found a good home and a new lease on life. I will give Suzie the FD 28-90MM f/4 Saturday when we meet for her Bridal shoot in DC :)

Hope all have a wonderful day today :)

I finally snipped off some bristles from a christmas tree, taped them together, dipped in paint and brushed across canvas. Exactly the look I was wanting.

Most likely eBay, but there isnt any buzz generating around it mainly because

B-I literally finished it a lil over an hour or so ago
C-Whos Jared Carpenter?:p <thats my favorite reason

Cool, right on. I havent painted since art class back in jr high. and even then it was fruit and learning how to create certain looks rather than stuff like this. Im kinda in the mood to do more as well, I have two more 9x12 canvases to do something with, but maybe in time step up to the large canvases.

Good evening everybody - and before I forget, nicely done painting Jared; reminds of something out of Poe (did somebody already mention that) Growing up I was surrounded by paintings. My father was a high school art teacher, but painted for more 7 decades.

Hey there Lisa - that's right, I forgot. You're still doing the NY thing and it looks like having fun :D.

I just got back from a shoot a short time ago. Looks like my volunteer gigs finally paid off....the local PBS affiliate had actually hired me to do some work for them :D. They made the mistake of saying that they really would like to pay me for my generosity, so I spelled out my standard rate scale which nearly resulted in multiple strokes on their end.

I told them that I like to shoot for them anyway, and this is my "volunteer contribution" to their effort. "Since you can't really afford to pay me what I'm really worth, just pay me what you can afford. To my surprise they came up with a halfway decent figure.

Awesome sapearl!

I just got back from the ugliest shoot ever ever. The background is a train wreck - unfortunately not literally coz that at least would be interesting. Poles and houses and an ugly street. I managed to not get poles out of heads but beyond that...

oh well.

HI, Jim! How's things on your end of the world?

Good Morning Kirstin,

We are unbelievingly busy at work just now. I am trying to hire new people (civil engineers) and am having a hard time finding candidates.

I got a new 5D anf the awesome "kit" lens...24-105MM f/4 EF L :)

I am going to support Suzie at a Bridal session this weekend if the weather clears...we were going to go to the Tidal Basin on Saturday and use the remaining Cherry Blossoms as a backdrop...but the forecast Saturday is for heavy rain and perhaps a thunderstorm.

How have you been? Hope is well with you and yours :)

Still pretty cool looking - perfect sort of imagery that could go with a novel (book jacket) or a specialty article. My sister also teaches art, but on the college level and she'd probably enjoy this also.

Hi Kristin - yeah, ugly shoots can be a pain background-wise. The meet and greet cocktail party I did at the local station was for Gwen Ifill who hosts "Washington Week" for PBS. This was done in a television studio.

The problem with this is one entire south facing wall is floor to ceiling windows, they'd covered all the remaining walls will black curtains, floods and spots pointed straight down, and the floor was a dark gray; manual settings on the camera all the way, bouncing the flash, Auto-ETTL. I alwasy do stuff like this RAW but I'll have a lot of PP to do with all the weird lighting.

Awesome sapearl!

Good morning, everyone! I'm busy today, just got the kids off to school after morning chess club. Son forgot his cello folder so off I will go with that in a moment. Kids. :(

But I wanted to tell Jim that Saturday is off and I will work on Sunday am. We have Conference for church so we will need to be home by noon. But I want to go early Sunday, if possible. The weather is good, but ground will be wet.

Also, I am going to attempt cleaning my 5D sensor this morning. Wish me luck. I need it.

Happy Friday! So much would have gone on, but soccer is canceled for today and tomorrow, so maybe, I'll get my house clean. :) I can try.

Good morning Suzy - good luck with the 5D sensor cleaning. Do you havd a special technique or just use the Rocket Blower or equivalent? I'm fairly paranoid in that area so just give it an occasional rocket blast. I have about 4-5 dust spots I've seen in "sky shots" for a while but have not been brave enough to embark on a deep cleaning. They heal out pretty well in PS.

You're welcome Jim - thanks. Gwen Ifill is quite a presence and personality... an incredible speaker and very warm and friendly in a social setting.

I was working the crowd trying to get good candids as well as group photos of Gwen with the big donors and local movers and shakers. It's always a sensitive sort of thing. You want to get good shots, but there are a lot of conversations going on and you're careful about interrupting.... sort of like a wedding reception ;)... so you're sort of walking on eggs as you're shooting.

Right at the start, she turns to me: "You look very familiar, have we ever met before?" Slightly taken aback I replied, "Unless you attend a lot of Bar Mitzvah's and weddings in this area probably not."

Now, I know that we have never met although it's possible that I might remind her of somebody. I believe this is an extremely gracious lady who was very kindly making an effort to put me at ease, and let me know it was ok to keep doing the informal little group shots. That's class.

Stu,

Great news and well deserved! Congratulations!

Thanks Suzy - I sort of worked up to this, and realisitically I'm not counting on this being a regular thing; I just enjoy shooting for the station as one of the "cummunity volunteers." It's far more interesting than handing out name tags and pouring coffee at their functions - did too much of that as a PTA dad.

Actually I'd already done 5 shoots gratis for them over the past two years, hoping to network, stay on their mind, see if anybody could use a wedding photog. This gig popped up and they were kind enough to offer me a little less than half of white I'm worth which is more than I expected to get .

I do like the concept of lady of leisure... it has a nice ring to it. Hopefully one of these days I can put my wife in that position ;).

Not a bad idea, the cleaning service - my wife is a cleanaholic..... she would clean up before they'd get here, because "nobody can clean up exactly the way I like it." I've simply given up arguing over the years and even help out a bit. It's easier that way.

Tomorrow is a down day since we did everything we wanted to today. I spent a ton at armani, NBA AND we had a blast with the guy at the garrettt popcorn store who gave us threee large bags of popcorn for small price.

Ok, so I left my camera in tonight, KICKING SELF NOW!!! I saw an accident, a fire truck coming out of the garage, two fire trucks full of guys, ok, and about 6 other things that would have made great pics.....Live an learn, If we go out tomorrow and most likely we will, I will take it.

Ok...for now, we are going to bed...Night everyone

I had HOA matters this morning and only got to my son's soccer game for the last 15 minutes. The game didn't count due to the other team not having all their players there. But they played anyway.

You know, I am so mad at the weatherman right now, I think I'm going to the corner and repenting. Rain, right. So, canceling everything and it's beautiful, but windy and cold. I am mad because rain tomorrow and I can't ask the bride to get her dress dirty, and there is a marathon in DC where all roads are closed from 8-2 or something like that. Can I send a nasty e-mail to the weather bureau now?

Suzie is fit to be tied...she was going to do a Bridal session this morning with me backing her up...it got cancelled due to the threatening weather which, of course, never materialized...now the weather man is saying rain on Sunday :(

I've not gone back and ready any posts but just want to check in

Just got in and OMGosh, Like, I have had the best day.

We set out just to do a few little things and we heard bagpipes, so of course we go down towards 6th avenue and we see tons of men in skirts :D
and bagpipes...I had a field day! SO, I remember a good friend telling me how he got into the middle of such a parade and I thought, LET me try, so I did, I ended up walking down the entire length of Ave of the America's from 46th to 56th street. Every officer I walked by I just joked with them about the parade and only one tried to stop me. I talked my way out of it.

THEN I see a bunch of "official" photogs all around these two men, SO, I join right in, I am right there in their face, even saying "this way this way" I had NO CLUE who they were, the one man I did not know but the other was Tynes, the kicker for the Giants. HA and he's cute LOL. I'll try to find out who the other man was, I am guessing a government official.

IT was a blast and much made up for me not taking my camera yesterday

SO, we are going to eat at a wonderful place last night. 49th & X

Pics will post Monday,

Hi guys. Sorry to have been so absent the last couple days. On Thursday, we drove up to the Bay Area...500 miles plus incidental side trip. Yesterday we drove from San Mateo to Stockton, then to Morgan Hill, and finally back to San Mateo....just about 300 miles. Today, we drove from San Mateo home....another 500 miles.

All the time, the truck was making a strange noise that sounded like disaster was imminent. It never happened, but whatever the problem is, it sounds expensive.:lol:

Tomorrow is a hectic day as well, although no driving. I really won't have a chance to get current on forum matters till Tuesday, and then I want to know everything you all have been doing. I'll hold off commenting till I've gone back and acquainted myself with everything new since Wednesday.

It's the old Dunfey Hotel at the corner of 101 and 92. We've been there so many times, it feels like a second home. In fact, last time we were there (St Patrick's Day), they gave us a bottle of champagne because it was our 40th stay there. Who knew?

The waitress always gives us hugs, and the front desk always upgrades us to a suite. Why would we go anywhere else?

Can't say I am familiar with the hotel, but being a local, I rarely used the Bayshore Freeway. My travels were on El Camino Real. I have not been able to make a visit back there since 2002. I remember going to San Jose for family outting days, every time a relative from another state would visit, my dad would insist we take them to the Winchester Mystery House.

Whenever we had out-of-town guests, we'd always head to San Francisco. We did the Mystery House several times, but only reluctantly. It wasn't that interesting after seeing it a few times.

The Dunfey sat right next to the freeway (101), and loked like a castle. It was a pretty well-known landmark. Locals still occasionally refer to it as the Dunfey.

I Googled it, Ahhhh yes! I know it now:D

And yes, the Mystery House was a big drag after the first time, but for our visitors it was their first time, so we went and we acted interested. If our visitors had kids, we usually got Disneyland or for one dayers, we got Santa Cruz Boardwalk, these were much more to my liking!:D
