Jon, that's amazing! You did get them even with the high ISO, I guess thats all the more reason I should never take my camera off of RAW! I would have got NOTHING!

If you get the chance to see the movie 'Bella,' do it. It's a feel good movie that I really enjoyed. It has a subtle 'pro-life' message, but that's really a very minor part of the movie. It's a very touching story without being overly sappy.
BTW, I have no public opinions on the subject of abortion. My recommendation is based solely on the fact that this is a good movie, and one I think most people could enjoy regardless of their position on a very touchy subject.

Jon, I heard about the Andrews show yesterday while showering and forgot to e-mail you about whether you planned to go or not. If I had known earlier, I would have made an effort to go. I love planes.
Jim, very nice breakfast. Wish I could have joined you. I ate some mini-muffins and hot chocolate for breakfast on the fly before church.
Jeff, excellent shot. I like it too.
Tom, how are you today? Hot?
Chris, congrats on the 40D. I captured that shot with my 40D and it was good. I didn't do any PP on it either, not even USM. That's straight RAW to jpeg from my 40D and 100-400. Great lens. Thanks, everyone, for recommending it.

Ahh, the joys of having the house to oneself. Waiting for the carpet to dry after steaming it. I have a very content kitty cat sitting in the window staring outside.
Next: go fill a prescription for the wife and start working on getting the new closet organizer together. Maybe finish putting curtains up, too.
Suzy - Thanks! I'm really looking forward to playing with the 40D. Glad the rebates happened when they did as I want to make sure I know how to use the camera befre my next wedding gig in June.

Jon,
That is a cool capture...were these from the Air Show at Andrews? No - back in early April there was a ceremony at the Air Force Memorial; they had a B-17, P-51 and P-40 do a fly-by. Unfortunately, the Spitfire had to cancel.
Suzie, cute action shot! Priceless!
Jon, that's amazing! You did get them even with the high ISO, I guess thats all the more reason I should never take my camera off of RAW! I would have got NOTHING!Still didn't make up for my needing about 900 mm more lens, but yep, that's still another reason to shoot RAW. RAW+JPEG, maybe (I do), but making sure that RAW's there . . .

It's not really the same as the 20D or 5D settings, the ISO button is on the far right. I get them mixed up sometimes and have to rethink. The LCD menu settings are all different and I have to scroll to different tools first. It was a little difficult for me at first, now I can do it fast. Practice, you'll really like it.

Seeing as I've only used an XTi until now, it's going to be a HUGE change for me. I've actually never really shot from anything other than an XTi.

You'll love the weight and feel of the 40D. It's just heavy enough, and not nearly as heavy as the earlier versions of the 10D, 20D, 30D. But it's not nearly as beautiful as my 5D, which is my take everywhere camera. But the 40D is really wonderful. I love it for sports.

I have two pro bodies (1D Mk III and 1Ds Mk II), and I find myself carrying the 40D most of the time. It is a sensational camera, and does not have the penalty of weight that goes along with the larger cameras. There are also some advantages to the 1.6X crop.
You're going to be a very happy camper.

B&H says that it should be here on Wednesday.
I now get to teach the wife how to use the XTi. That will become her camera for snapshots with the kit lens (when I'm not using it on gigs). She doesn't like the weight of the 17-55 f/2.8 IS with everything else. Maybe later I'll get her an IS lens...I probably should've ordered the 40D with the kit lens and put that on the XTi.
I also ordered a couple of diamondback batteries; we'll see how they work out.

Hi All,
I finished printing the "galley proof" memory book for the funeral I did 3 weeks ago. I ended up with 88 PP photos and I plan to reduce these to 50-60 for the formal 5x7 book. The galley proofs are low res 8x10's and I mounded them in a GBC binder with a glassy cover and a hard back.
Now comes the hard part...I have to sit down with the widow and help her to select the ones for the formal Memory Book. I plan to do this on Tuesday night with her and her daughter.
I have already started printing the 5x7s I know will end up in the book...about 30-40 photos are obvious (at least to me). I use matte 60 lb paper I get on bulk order from Red River Paper. These are as thick as postcard stock and print very nicely on my EPSON R800.

We briefly talked about marks, but she's so happy with the whole pregnancy thing that they don't bother her and are seen as a mark of what is happening. I might PP one or two images just to give her the option now that you mention it. Honestly, after being with them, it never even crossed my mind when I downloaded the cards!

I think they are a bit "better" then Mpix. they don't have that sports stuff, but as far as prints, I'd go with WHCC. Plus you can get like 5 free prints to make sure your machine is calibrated well!
Check them out!

Elaine and I went for a long drive in the countryside (and in the rain) on Sunday. I have never seen it so green in all the years I have lived in No Virginia. We have a summer's worth of rain already. On the 10th of May we broke the record for rainfall in the month of May in our area...and look at us now on the 20th! But it sure beats 113 degrees hands down :)

I mentioned to Lois that we might be going to San Diego to meet a forum member, and she's all in favor of it. She loves San Diego, and she especially loves getting out of the heat whenever a reasonable excuse presents itself.

I do miss the lush green of the east. It just doesn't exist out here. The mountains will 'green up' during the winter (read: rainy season), but it doesn't last, and by late spring, everything is pretty brown. It has its own beauty, but it takes some getting-used-to.

I can send a few buckets to anyone, Jim! It rained a ton here again! I heard my sump pump go off about every 3 minutes all night long. Thank heavens it works. I'm getting a back up battery for it this week, just in case the electricity is out. And the sink hole on Dale Blvd is still there, no one can get to it to fill it. The erosion was unexpected and too deep for a quick fix. Over 25K cars usually go on this road daily, so the other detour roads are filled all day long. Such a pain.

Yeah, it should be here tomorrow. As long as I don't have to sign for it. If they require a signature, I'll have to pick it up on the way to work Thursday. I don't know what B&H's policy is on that. All but one of the packages I've ordered recently have not required a signature. We'll see.
