"Twenty years down the road, you'll wish you went with the photographer you loved. In time, you'll appreciate quality more than quanitity."
Actually I do like the way Amandas sentence ends... perhaps it can be further amplified to return to the title of the blog?
Not sure how, i'm still thinking.

Thanks Amanda. I have changed the last part now. I'm going to work on a stronger conclusion, I agree with you.
The thread here, no, I didn't start that. That is what inspired me in writing this though. I contacted Curtis and asked him if he didn't mind if I used the thread.

Lloyod is "picturecrazy" on the forums. Amazing photographer and truly an inspiration in the business-side of photography.
I have taken a liking and adapted to his philosophy of selling the sizzle and not the steak - sell yourself, not your package/prices.

Hey Amanda - how is this for a conclusion:
Think of wedding photography as an investment in your life, and in the lives of those you love. It's one of the only investments you will make that will constantly remind you of the decision; the investment hangs on my grandmother's wall. Invest wisely.

Personally, I would change "the decision" to "your decision" and I would change the "investment hangs" to something else because it's not the investment--it's the return, KWIM? But to say "the return hangs on my grandmother's wall" just isn't very eloguent.

The significance of wedding photography is pretty obvious, but, is the importance..
The significance of wedding photography is pretty obvious, but is the importance..
Choose that photographer that you really want
How bout something more demonstrative. e.g. "choose the photographer whose photos you keep going back to look at one more time" except that sounds off
whistles, from a photographer
whistles from a photographer
Alternatively, If
Alternatively, if
And it doesn't happen in HTML, but when you submit it to a publication, make sure you have two spaces after periods. I'm sure Jenn could offer much more help since that's really her thing.
EDIT: And I really liked your line at the end about hanging on the grandmother's wall. I just wondered if there were a more accurate word choice, but keep it in! (that's a demand)

Hows this for a finisher? It's getting closer to where I want it to be:
Think of wedding photography as an investment in your life, and in the lives of those you love. It's one of the only investments you will make that will constantly remind you of your decision. This investment creates the one lasting treasure of your memories, reminding you of each and every little detail and moment. This investment, like the love you have for each other, is timeless, and, the return on investment will hang on your loved ones walls for years to come. Invest wisely.

use double space for all publications... you can set this up in Word before you submit it.
Bryan: I'm still having mixed feelings about the conclusion to your blog... although the original is very good... i think it can be more powerful. (bare with me while i think about it) :)

Well the first enquiry i had last week was for my first ever church wedding. I emailed her back, and said that I would call to arrange a date to meet.
The one i've received today, i haven't emailed back, but its for a hindu wedding. They will be celebrating Diwali (as am i) so will probably try and meet with them next week also :)
I generally follow up an enquiry with an email first, then a call to arrange a meet. That's as far as i've got so far. My first official year "in business" will be 2008. :D so excited !!! WOOOHOOOO :D

100% agreed, i said the same thing a few pages earlier when you guys were still fast asleep, lol.
So my entry route? Well i started out as a hobbiest... then did a few motorsport events. I spent nearly 60% of my surf time, reading reviews and tips and tricks about photography, which was my first indication of how much i loved photography. I then went about getting a list of gear I wanted. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford it all at once, so in the past 6 months, i've been collecting bits and bobs... (there's still plenty i'm after 24-105L IS for example ;) ) Then anyway, earlier this year, i shot a friends engagement, reception and wedding. Shadowed and second shot for a professional wedding photographer, and assisted professionals at a reception party. More recently I shot a birthday party & volunteered my time for a charity event organised by a local committee (hindu's have lots of religious events) and that helped boost my confidence, as well as get my name on the market.
Which brings me up to today :) sorry for boring the rest of you :)

No, don't do that, I HATE that ... newspapers don't do two spaces. Magazines might. I hated having to go through articles to take out the extra space! Or rather, ordering my minions to do it for me.

Cool... sounds like a good route. As far as accumulating the gear on a wish list, all I can say is I hear ya. I'm more or less outfitted for portraits, could use a few more things, but have the necessitites. I'm not buying any more until I've recouped more of it or we find money to pay our income tax on the side of the road somewhere.

It wasn't the college that got me knocked up. It was moving in with the long-distance boyfriend and not being very responsible in various ways. You're probably a lot stronger for it! I was way too self-absorbed in college to take care of anyone other than myself.

Then about 4 times a year, I use the File > Export function in Outlook and take a backup of all my contacts... which i can open in Excel or Print out etc... :)

Morning Kristin :) you're already awake?!! it feels like you only went to sleep a few moments ago! wow today has really flown by
Not sure why I'm up at 4am, but I guess there's no excuse today not to have enough time to get stuff done, right?
Morning - thanks!
Mike is pregnant. I suppose that is new news!
Well, congratulations, you two! I knew the Albany meet was...interesting!

You're probably a lot stronger for it! I was way too self-absorbed in college to take care of anyone other than myself.
My (second) college fiance is still hanging around and keeps claiming I signed something called a marriage certificate. Think I can claim temporary insanity?
What happened to the first one?
WOO HOO!
I just heard back from the editor - I got the cover for the local bridal magazine!!!!
Awesome! Congratulations!
I assume the bloke who is still hanging around, is the one with all the guitars... more recently known as "husband" ?? lol ;)
yus.. that's him.
I hit 1000 posts finally!
Congratulations... you've wasted almost as much time here as the rest of us
Morning, All!
Congrats, Bryan :)
What else did I miss - looks like you guys have been chatting away in here.
Morning Kristin!
Hmm...contacts as in..people who you shoot, or contact you to do weddings etc.
Do you keep a log of their names, addresses or whatever?
I was thinking of an electonic address book, or a just plain old rolodex?
What do you guys use?
Ah... I refer to my earlier "pattern of concentric circles" search method, and also something I call "notes scribbled on envelopes" I could really use a system, too.

not everyone has business cards, but you could always take a note of it on a PDA or such device.
But seeing as we spend almost half the day infront of a PC, why not just let it do the organising for you :)

well..the rolodex has one that you can upload software to do it...but you know, I could just do it on the pute and print it to paper when I need to, correct? and save about 100 bucks.

I have an old-fashioned dayplanner thing with addresses in the back. I like having things written down where I don't have to fire up a machine to access them.

dude! didn't I tell you Splenda is the devil! ;)
That stuff is just nasty. It resembles pesticides more than sugar. Show the molecular structure to any educated organic chemist and ask them if they'd eat it. They'll likely look at it and then look at you as if you're stupid for suggesting eating anything that looked like that.
Use REAL sugar, just less of it. If not, then Zylitol and Stevia are well known, natural alternatives that have been used around the world for centuries.
I'm just lookin' out for ya buddy. :)
this goes to BRYAN too! Get off the Splenda!!!

I've done plenty of research and just as there is with anything, there is good and band. I do not use much of it at all and I do use sugar but only natural raw sugars.

They gave you tomato juice at a blood drive? Nice imagery! I don't think I could have sat and watched a bag fill with my blood and then gone and drank a cup of tomato juice. But then maybe I just watch too much Angel.

I first opted for the apple juice... but after almost passing out and laying back down for a few minutes and hearing everyone else going for the tomato juice, I figured I'd give it a whirl. Makes sense I guess, they take red fluid out of my body... I gotta put some red back in!
This little 5.5oz can of V8 = 1 serving of veggies. 30 calories, 6g sugar, 330mg sodium >.<, and a few other things.

Aspartame is just as bad. Why anyone willingly eats things that were brewed up in a chemistry lab is beyond me. Sugar is not bad. Eating too much sugar is what's bad. Just share a can of real coke with someone rather than drinking an entire diet coke yourself.

Omgosh, a subject so near and dear to my heart...I'm a freak when it comes to eating well...
Splenda...it's chemically changed and Lloyd is correct, it's molecular structure is changed so the body does not recognize it as food,
Same with Hydrogenated Oils...so the body stores them till it knows what to do with them, or until you fast and they are finally thrown out..till then, they are cancer agents.
Diet pop is one of the worst things you can drink. It's proven, it causes the brain to basically get holes in it. It's the aspartame in it. It's awful
It's best to eat, as clean and green as you can. If you have to have sugar do a molasses or a brown natural sugar, it's better then the fake stuff, at least your body knows what to do with it.
Liza..check that propel...
High Fructose Corn Syrup (say that 5 times real fast) it again is not a natural ingredient and one of the causes of high sugar levels in children. It's a leading cause of diabeties.
All these things can be checked out on the web
Simply, if you want to loose weight...eat less, exercise more..there is no simple easy way, that is it. IF you want to eat big, exercise more.
and for God's sake,,do not take Alli, read the warnings first...if you want to wear adult diapers for ever..then get it.
OK..rant over..I had to HAD to say something...
Now I have a "meeting" to go to, LOL. I'll be back later.
