WOO HOO just got Leopard ...

I'm installing it now. Chat with you guys in a bit!

I've installed it on three of my machines, and it seems to be pretty seamless. I really like Time machine.

The horrors of Vista are starting to fade, although I'm still having compatibility issues with some of my hardware (including an HP printer I bought within the last month.)

Way cool..what kind of lens is that? Way cool.

It's the 8mm Peleng fisheye. Pretty cheap. Only available on eBay direct from Belarus AFAIK.

Optically: it's got sharpness going for it but it's not fabulous in other respects. But who cares? It's a special effect lens ;-)

You have to manual focus it and it's only f/3.5 right?

I had one of those - really fun lens. And it was practically a "focus free" lens. At 8mm's I would set it at f4 (was a touch soft at 3.5), and use the hyperfocal symbol to set my focus, and presto - everything from a couple feet and beyond was in focus

Yeah... but did you see what he replaced it with... not much better!

Hey...OK, not really a stretch there! I just wanted everyone to see what I looked like so I'm allowed into the clubhouse on Saturday.

Okay, should I invest $3000 on the new MacBook Pro? Is it worth it? I know nothing about Apple products. And really, my 4 computers are getting stupider as we go. Yesterday my son typed the same thing 3 times because the computer kept telling him it had to do something to shut the program down. Oh, we were mad. I ended up using my 6 year old HP laptop and flash drive to the printer. Tell me I need to spend money on a new computer!

all right... I wish my husband thought the same way. He's a bass player, with 2 electric guitars, an acoustic guitar, a keyboard, a bunch of recording crap, and a drum kit that he bought "for me" but I suspect it was really for him. He does teach guitar, though, and he is a radio producer so most of the recording stuff gets used for that, too. It all just takes up so much space!

Hello belmondo,
Time machine (TM) looks really great, but there is at the moment a problem with TM and Aperture as the database may be damaged while open and TM is backing it up. I can't remember which forum I found it but Apple is searching a solution at the moment.
Yesterday I ordered my iMac 24" with 1 GB, the 4 GB are bought for a less than a 7th what Apple wants for the upgrade to 4 GB. Ouch.
I talked with Adobe, no problem transferring licenses from Win to Mac. :)

Who fancies helping me judge which I should submit as an entry for a photo competition on my car club forum :)

The following 5 are low resolution images (following POTN rules for image addition).

Which do you think is the best out of the lot? I only had 30 minutes on the way home, so be gentle on the critique :)

Life's short - buy the computer ...and whatever lens you've been jonesing!

My philosophy exactly.

I've said it before, after 9/11, the New York Times ran short biographical sketches of the victims. I was glued to them and read them every day they came out. There's one that will always stand out to me.

A man in his mid 40's, an investment banker, very successful, told his wife (his wife recounted this story to the Times) that he wanted to buy them a boat. Her response was, even though they could well afford it, that maybe it wasn't a good time financially to do so, and he heeded her advice and didn't get the boat. Well, 9/11 came and he died. He never did get the boat, his wife said.

That will not happen to me. I live for today. My retirement is well secured. And I will also do my darndest to spend my kids' inheritance too. :)

Hi Guys :)

Who fancies helping me judge which I should submit as an entry for a photo competition on my car club forum :)

The following 5 are low resolution images (following POTN rules for image addition).

Which do you think is the best out of the lot? I only had 30 minutes on the way home, so be gentle on the critique :)

The competition theme is Lexus at Night

one or three for me!

I think Jeff's just wearing jeans, t-shirt, and a sweater (or whatever regional name you call it), it is a bit scary... :p

Morning and hello in advance to those visiting the Empire State this weekend. It's going to ge a good time had by all. Too bad everybody couldn't make it. Maybe next time.

Not too busy today. I'm letting one of my staff handle the morning chores so I can get to the spinning class at noon. Hey, first things first, ya know.

I don't dig the different fonts heights at all.

Background is cool, very "you". I would use font size rather than height to differentiate, and increase the gap above "portraits" and below "children" (ie. move the list closer together).

Otherwise, it's great!

yeah i know i need to. Getting there, this is more mockup.

The conventional card (horizontal) becomes cluttered when all the info is on there.

Thus why Im going vertically.

I like the simple look, but then its almost...too simple.:p

The background was actually a early morning tour of my dresser droors. Found some family photos and came across the negatives. Found one slide that was completely blank.

Scanned it, added some textures and blended it...BOOM....made it "me"

nothing wrong with vertical :) i've seen some great examples of vertical business cards.

have you a logo design that would identify your card easily as different from a piece of paper with writing on it?

the idea is good, it has the services listed clearly, which is great... but i'm not sure if it's a "keeper"... some business cards go to the back of a card wallet, or card book... and never get looked at again...

ps: you need a domain, but while you're here i checked out your work and WOW, it's fantastic... love the way each image has a title :D

I did have a logo, but Im not into them as much anymore.

To me logos are played out, I can put a logo on a snapshot, doesnt make it a great photo. Just makes it a snapshot with a logo on it. Id rather be recognized by my photos not my logo. Then again who knows.

Id like to get a website going, Ill get there eventually. Thanks for the "wow".:D

i dont think the logo is something that everyone has... well actually maybe everyone does have it, but it's the good ones that stand out from the crowd... one that is easily recognisable, something that shows a bit of creative skill, an artistic flare... i didn't pay a designer to make my logo, i spent a couple hours infront of PS and a few free fonts... i have it on my business card, and use it to watermark my work...

one thing i have noticed though, is when i do hand out my card to clients, they do mutter or mention at times things like "love the logo!" or "nice logo!"... just an added feature to make the business card unique... :) IMO

Saying that however, your work really is good, and i'm sure they are already recognised as your work... do you have a specific trademark shot you use for events? (for example, John Woo, uses a slow motion flying Dove, in all of his movies IIRC)

True, but that can also be said for the photography itself. And that is where I differ from those around here (where I live). Im more artistic in my photography, although I can also take the conventional 'pretty picture'. As far as trademark, cant say its one yet since Ive just really hit my stride with my style, but if I had to claim one...it would be crows. Yet incorporate them in beautiful photos, dismiss the notion that crows have to be 'dark', 'scary', 'death', etc etc.

There is a poem I found some time back that goes...

One crow for sorrow
Two crows for joy
Three crows for a girl
Four for a boy
Five crows for silver
Six crows for gold
seven crows for a secret never to be told.
