View Full Version : Just get it over with...

Every year at this time I am bombarded with "Happy Halloween" every where I go.

I'm old, I'm fat, and I live in a very rural area where trick-or-treating would require hiking boots. We don't do the Holloween thing.

Starting tomorrow, I know people will start saying, "Happy Thanksgiving." Then it'll be "Merry Christmas," "Happy Hanukkah," or "Happy Kwanzaa," followed by "Happy New Year."

What a bunch of hypocritical nonsense! Most of the people who say it couldn't care less if I have happy respective "holidays"!

I say just get it over with! Starting in mid-October, just wish everyone you meet "Happy Hallowthanksmassyear" and be done with it.

Hallowthanksmasyear = the commercial holiday season starting sometime after Labor Day and lasting through January 2nd, in which you will be bombarded with a constant exhortation to BUY, BUY, BUY.

"Bah! Humbug!" is too weak an epithet!

Well its nearly hitting 5, I wont get home from work until about 7pm GMT so I guess that will leave 5 hours of annoyances.

I dont think the "switching all the house lights" routine works anymore. I might have to just break out the flour and water?

Just in case you don't hear anyone telling you this tomorrow, I'll say it now:

HAPPY ALL SAINTS DAY!

Ah, yes, All Hallows Day! The day for which Halloween is the day before.

But don't forget All Souls Day! Not all of 'em are saints.

"Old" will come, if you're lucky.

"Fat" is up to you. I got fat for religious reasons. I'm a devout sloth!

Well then! Put up your pole and stay away from bagels.

And don't start whatever it may be that you don't wish to start.

Just remember, the black "jelly beans" in you Easter basket may not be. After all, it's the Easter bunny, so they could be "smart pills."
