Check this image of the print preview--http://www.publicscrutiny.net/i9900screwup.jpg

Whenever I try to print to the i9900 from Pagemaker (6.5 or 7.0) using 13x19" paper, i get this result, with the image off the paper up and to the left. If I set a "custom" page size at 13x19", sometimes it works (after telling me that the printer can't porint that size and it will reduce the paper size to print).

Since Pagemaker prints fine to my other printers this way (Epson 1270), I assume there is some problem with the Canon printing setup software.

Has anyone seen this problem before or heard of it, and, better yet, heard of a solution?

Many thanks--[/img]

If you are going to make a 13x19 (A3) size print, how is the printer driver supposed to know that that's the paper size you want unless you tell it that? If your default size is 8.5x11, then that's what the print driver is going to assume you want to use. And that may explain what you're seeing in the preview window.

Once you've selected the right paper size, you should be able to print the image without any problems. If your image size is even slightly bigger than 13x19, you will get a message saying that the print size is bigger than the paper size (especially if you're not printing borderless) and that is normal. If you check "Size image to fit", then you won't see that message because the driver will resize your image to fit into the print area of the paper.

I am not a dimwit! Or, at least, not that much of a dimwit.

The paper is set to A3+ (13x19") and the Printer Paper Size is "Same as Page Size" and grayed out. Printing Type is active and "Normal Size Printing" but it does change the result if you change the Printing Type.

I wish it were what you say, or something similar. I do a lot of printing out of Pagemaker and a lot at A3+, so this is a major malfunction for me.

Note that I can sometimes get this to work by setting the "Page Size" to "Custom" and then manually entering 13x19" and resetting the "Printer Paper Size" to A3+, but this preculdes printing A3+ (13x19") borderless, because when you click "Borderless" the program insists that you use the few sizes in the "Page Size" slot which do not now include "Custom."

The upshot is I can get it to print BORDERED 13x19" from Pagemaker by this workaround (setting a "CUSTOM" Page Size that is identical to one of the choices [A3+]), but I cannot print borderless at all at this size.

I may try again to uninstall and reinstall the printer, but after that I'm at a loss.

Oh--one more thing. The printer works well for other sizes up to 11x17" just using the Page Setup panel and the Page Size blank in the usual way.

Thanks, though--

Sorry, I wasn't implying that you were a dimwit.
I was just responding to your statement "If I set a "custom" page size at 13x19", sometimes it works". I just naturally assumed that maybe the paper size was set to something else.

At any rate, do you have this problem with any other software, such as Photoshop? I don't have Pagemaker so I really can't try printing one myself. But if you can duplicate the problem with PS, then I can try mine with PS and see if the same thing happens to me.

Well, I am kind of a dimwit, so it's OK>

Subsequent to your last email, I reinstalled MS Publisher, rebuilt the poster at A3+ 13x19" and printed it without a hitch on the i9900. Even printed it borderless (bleed).

I was hoping this would be a printer drive problem, not a Pagemaker problem, and if you ever tried to get a Pagemaker problem resolved, you'll know why. But it appears that it is a problem specifically with the interaction between the printer Page Layout panel and Pagemaker printing at A3+ (as I said, Pagemaker is fine at 11x17")

I can also print full 13x19" bordered or borderless from ACDSee, Adobe Photoshop Elements, Picasa, the software that comes with the printer, and virtually everything else I own, so that's the sad end of my complaint.

Now to figure how to get a rise out of the Pagemaker folks on the Pagemaker forum.

THanks.
