Ok here's my comment. Looks like an attempt to advertise someone's site trying to SELL pictures.

It's predominantly a gallery, if its sole purpose was to sell images wouldn't it have a professional address and a proper ordering system.....

Take a look at some of the pics at www.pbase.com. When your's look like some of those than try selling your pictures, otherwise keep practicing. Here are some suggestions:

Increase the sharpness
Increase the saturation
Lessen the colorcast

P.S.

Take a look at these pictures http://www.pbase.com/mardoli/summer_laziness

or

http://www.pbase.com/kodachrome/colour

or

http://www.pbase.com/dcarrick/cancun_2004&page=all

They shine, show interesting angles, have lots of colors and certainly used post picture processing to enhance.

This website isn't soley designed to sell pictures, it's there as a gallery which offers to opportunity to buy a picture if you like it.

We've already sold a couple of our Eiffel Tower photo:

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/petelorence/eiffeltower.jpg

We're limited with equipment, thus the images are 100% sharp.

Ta for the saturation tip, does improve things.

Lessen the what?

Sharpening is accomplished using photo editing software.

But invariably they look obviously tampered with

No not tampered, improved, which most of your photos need.

I'll get some opinions off ProCycling magazine soon, many of my photos their art editor approved, so I think I'll trust their professional opinions.

Although I do agree with the saturation perspective.

PS. I'd say you need to stop tampering with photos on your site 'n get interesting angles instead etc.

(Boy, people do take this thing seriously  )

Hey, forrest, constructive ciriticism is always appreciated, but surely there's a better way to go about it than coming across as so rude? We've only been taking photos for a few months so obviously we're well aware that we need to improve, thank you. BUT, both of our cameras are film cameras, we don't have digital yet (Yes I am aware that this is a digital forum, but it's a good forum for film as well I've noticed) so there's not much point in enhancing them post-processing. Anyway, I prefere to do all the artistic while taking the photo, not afterwards, otherwise, what's the point in taking photos? Why not just design everything on the computer? I prefere to play with shutter speed, f stops, filters etc while setting up the shot.

If we "improve" the photos digitally afterwards, then it's not a true picture of what the photo actually looks like as the negs and prints will still look exactly the same. I really like film and I really like holding the photos in my hands, getting them blown up and admiring them sitting there on the wall.

Please find a way to improve the way you speak to people, by being helpful without sounding rude. Your comments and suggestions are appreciated anyway, no hard feelings :)

You asked for opinions, I gave them. You don't like the answers then don't ask the questions. Your pictures are dull, unsharp, lacking color and not very imaginative when it comes to composition.

Am I the only one that notices this thread heading in a downward spiral.

You all have points.
When comments are invited, you have to be prepared for the criticisms as well the praise. If you're looking for compliments, post your photos in the Share Photos board. You'll get a lot of comments like, "Great shot, Nice capture, and Well done."

On the other hand, constructive criticism needs to be helpful and not insulting.

We can all benefit from taking time to better choose our words, and by lowering our expectations of how enthusiastic people should be towards our work.

Thanks, guys.

You are very right Tom. I took the time to to look read this thread a few times and look at the galleries of both posters here.

Personally, I wish the moderators would just shut down threads like this when it starts to get into a insulting match.

I hear what you are saying, but do you process your own prints/slides? I have been taking photographs for over 25 years and to be honest I had as much creative control in the dark room as I had with the camera in my hand.

I admit that manipulation of the final image is a lot easier in the digital world but I normally limit what I do to correcting perspective, colour balance and a decent crop, no more or less than I did in the darkroom but with the added advantage that I get to do it sitting down, in the light and I do not get wet.

I think that your site is fine but feel that you have some ways to go to turn it into a commercial enterprise, but hey what do I know weren’t the Beatles originally turned down by EMI?

I reckon personal opinion 'n not a photographic opinion has entered forrest's posts.

I agree that the photos aren't razor sharp, but I think the colours are good and many are quite exciting:

You "reckon" wrong. Your pictures don't evn come close to the examples I pointed you to. Practice, practice, practice then come back.

Thanks. You guys are too much. Thread locked until you can learn to play nicely.
