As a brand new member of this forum, I'm sharing some subject matter that is also pretty new to me.
I shot my second ever motorsport meeting today and dabbled in some panning (hard work!) amongst other things.
I'd really appreciate some feedback from the more experienced photogs out there!
Here are the pics:

What kit were you using?

These were all shot on a 10D with a 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4x converter - the main benefit today was being able to shoot at 100 and 200ASA which really helped the colour saturation.
I was concentrating on nailing the focus and filling the frame - hence the long focal length.

But wouldn't the converter have knocked the F down a couple of notches?

Only one stop with the 1.4x... the panning shots are taken at 1/100s at f/10 and the other two at 1/1000s at f/4

That's not too bad then! Need to improve my kit to get some better shots!

I guess I could have shot a little wider and then cropped down... but I thought the best way to learn was to make it harder for myself!
That panning thing is deadly difficult and it took a few attempts to get some 'keepers' then I just cranked shutter speed down notch by notch to get more background blur.
The 'speed' of the prime lens wasn't really a big help on this occasion, but the L glass always makes for some good colour saturation and contrast.

If you look at my Tour de France photos, you'll see I need a much faster lense, really hampered me, think I was limited to F5.4

Glad you like the panning shots... I think I have turned into a car nut overnight! Can't wait for the next meeting!
