I hope these look ok i exsposed for the bird but the BG went well under, the light was a bit strange low sun here in the UK .
5d 500f4isL +1.4tc 1/500 f5.6 iso 400
just about full frame on these and the closest iv ever been to an Egrett there very shy here aprox 25ft .

Nicely captured Rob! Beautiful shots. All white or all black birds are always a challenge, well done!

They look really good...I don't have any white birds up here to practice on, but down south in the winter the Egretts are landing. Hope to join the big bird club soon...steve

Those are good shots! Mine are too far and the whites are too blown so I know how hard these guys are to get a good shot of. Good job!

opps i should have pointed out i was in a popup hide -without that you would be lucky if you got to within 100yds .
i got about 6 shots ,It was the 5d shutter/mirrow that scared it off or i might have got some better than these with it catching a fish .

Man, I have so many photos of Egrets that went into Recycle Bin due to the blown out white. You did a great job with it!

i just under exspose pure white birds by a stop or even 2 stops this keeps detail in the feathers and turns the bird light grey,it will grossly underexspose the background .
then use CS3 to bing the white back and that will also bring the background back a bit too, although noise may be more evedent in the background working this way its far better than haveing blown out white's as thers little you can do.
