CDS and I had almost given up on the town of Westport for the day when we spotted this egret standing nonchalantly on a dock. He posed nicely for us.

We proceeded to have a most delicious Iced Tea at a restaurant across from the public landing - I'd recommend this place highly if I could remember the name. We had another one of CDS's expensive meals at this place last time. (Not that I'm complaining - the food was excellent. But let me warn you: If you let CDS pick the restaurant, bring lots of money and an empty stomach. Both will be gone by the end of the meal.)
After the Iced Tea and a bowl of water for Bumpus and Roo, we headed over to the landing. And who should appear but the same egret fishing quite close to the parking lot. Here I caught him in the act of staring at a fish:

CDS should have some pics of this guy catching and eating that fish. All I managed was a pic of him swallowing it - not very exciting.
But when he flew away - away being about 50 feet - I did manage a few of him flying.

I just had to get a closeup.

I hereby resolve myself to never taking another picture of an egret with a grey sea as a background. I attempted 4 or 5 different sharpening techniques on the second one, and could not manage one without a distinct and ugly halo. That was the best I could do.
