HEy,
i know i've already talked about this, but i was wondering if anyone knows if the g3 sufferes from it in the same way, and how bad? (at what apature?). I only ask cause there's one on ebay for $445 Australian dollars (so far) (which is$318 US dollars), does this seem like a good price?? I can get the g5 for $530 US dollars, inc shipping to aus). What i'm wondering if its it worth the $200 US i'd save to get the g3, maby not worth it if its got the same problems? But always a compromise i guess.

:) I have had my G3 for a year, and haven't haven't experienced any fringing. I don't even know what fringing looks like. If you can get a new G3 with all the included stuff like charger cord, software, neck strap etc. grab it. It's a better camera than the G5 and 4 mp are plenty of pixels for anything short of a poster. I love mine. The only bad pictures are caused by the nut behind the camera.

I've had a G3 for over a year, and nearly 10,000 pics.
I've noticed purple fringing in my pics only once, and
even in that particular instance it wasn't too objectionable.
Level of purple fringing imho is not a problem with G3/G5;
noise at ISO 200/400 is, and in this respect, G3 is
somewhat less noisy than G5. At $300 or so, G3 is
quite a bargain.

Orfeo,
I have a G5 and was worried about purple fringing at first due to negative press and finding some on my first few photos. Once you learn what conditions it is likely to occur in and take control of your exposure it ends up not being a problem. I imaging this would be just as true for the G3. I actually prefer the G5 as it looks good in black and the extra megapixel allows slightly larger prints which may be important if you are going to submit any shots to magazines, calendars etc.
Anyway, I'm sure you will enjoy either.

I have the G3 and the only time I noteced any purple fringing was when I was shooting a little to directly into the sun and I think there was some snow reflection also, other than that I have never had a problem

:shock: It includes tele and wide angle lens? The tele sells for $110 and the wideagle sells for $150 at B&H! If you can get the camera & lenses for $450, Grab it before someone else sees the ad.

as others have mentioned, fringing can be controlled once you become comfortable with your camera, most of the time decreasing the aperture does the trick.
i also preffer the G5 due to the extra added detail it kicks in, if you like to print hard copies of your photos, it'd be useful.
all i can say is, look into the future, if you plan to use the camera for a while, then might as well get a 5MP camera, but both are damn good.
