View Full Version : Huge Engagement Shoot

Here's a few from an engagement shoot I did, this is Beth and Chance. GREAT couple to work with. Just booked their wedding for May of next year, so we did their engagement shoot this past thursday. They were in a rush to get these pics made because one of Chance's fraternity brothers has been diagnosed with Chondrosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. He's undergoing treatment, and early this next week everyone in the fraternity (around 50-60 guys) is going to shave their heads in support for him...so she wanted to get some shots before this occured. The man with cancer's name is Trey, please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
Here's a few quick edits. I haven't had time to do full blown PP on them, but please give me any C/C you have. I really appreciate them!

LOL love the comment, it was hard to take my eyes off the bride-to-be, she's a knockout. they're both good friends from the campus i just graduated from, and were a blast to work with.
again, thanks so much for the great comments, i REALLY appreciate it all. :)

these are very nice. The only one I am not liking is 3. It looks like you captured her getting the hair out of her face. Overall great job. They are a cut couple. Love the hay. Where are you from?

LOVE the series! Especially the collage. Outstanding! I would like 4 a whole lot more though, had his nose not been squished against her face.

Kai: I live in Magnolia Arkansas. The hay is on the farm (no hick jokes ;) ) on my campus. We have an agricultural department and these were out on the "farm road" so we used them :D sun was setting right in front of them, so the lighting was amazing.
thanks so much everyone for all the great feedback

Great job. I like #2 also. I tried to do a similar shot, but without the heads; not near as effective as your shot was.

Hey JRowe if you live in Magnolia, AR. Awesome I live in Russellville, AR I'm always having to be in Fort Smith, AR and Hatfield, AR though. I love the shots they are great.
Only one thing I might point out is on #4 you may have wanted it and it may be personal preference, but his nose is squashed. LIke I said I didn't know if you wanted that or not.

I kind of like #3, it's like one of those moments when you are close to your loved one, and they're clearing the hair from their face, the look of joy on her face makes it.
Like the middle shot in the collage, I thought my wife was the only one that gave piggy backs (and does squats with me on her back lol)

thanks so much everyone, again...in shock at the great response.
trueblue123: most of the shots in this series are shot with my canon 20d body and 70-200mm f/2.8 IS USM. the very shallow depth of field shots (ring w/ faces in the background) and the shots of them sitting on the hay bails (sp?) were all taken with my canon 85mm f/1.8 lens.
any other questions feel free to ask

How long have you been shooting weddings professionaly? I'm asking because I really like all these shots. I think it always helps when the bride is attractive (the groom definitely got the better deal ;) ), but the photos, IMO, are also very nice to look at. There are a LOT of wedding hacks out there, but I really do like your style.
I'm not sure if you used a flash for these shots or not, but if you did, the shots don't have that "flashy" look, which I personally don't love.

SunTsu: I really appreciate your kind words. I have only been shooting weddings professionally for around a year now. I have shot portraiture for around 2 years, and was asked to do a friend's wedding a while back and LOVED it. I was scared to death, but it was a great experience. I then wanted to 2nd shoot and gain more experience, but noone in my town would allow this and didn't take me seriously, so I just went off and have been shooting on my own (w/ a great 2nd shooter g-money) every since. This is my first FULL wedding season, so i'm looking forward to it.
i did use SOME flash, and a mix of silver reflector for these. i mainly bounced when possible, and some low power fill light
again, thanks so much :D
