I decided to go the route of tabletop work rather than a lightbox. I found the lightbox too confining and didn't allow for as much creativity. I own strobes and wanted room to work with modifiers rather than just having light enter a lightbox throough diffusion material from the sides. I enjoy doing product shots and needed a better way to do images for ebay, etc.

Since I already had my rolls of 53" seamless hanging it made sense to just have a foldable table that I can set up, throw some masonite over the top to extend the sides and bring the seamless right down onto the table and then 6 feet away from the wall. This gives me lots of room to work, greater flexibiltiy with depth of field and separation between background and subject area and the ability to shoot much larger objects than in a lightbox.

Anyway, here is a shot of the setup and then some quick samples. These were shot with the 85mm f/1.8 @ f/11, ISO 100, as JPG large and these are right out of the camera. Yes, I know they are small but I'm not really trying to show how great the shots are, just the fact that the results are quite good and the light table gives me exactly what I need for this kind of shooting.

Nice. Looks like you've the real deal (the car) sitting right in your studio :)

Thank you. I'm loving the freedom of the open table.

What did I miss Frank? Probably just a Looong thread on light on
"Another DIY light box..." where I made some alternate suggestions for broad, movable light sources. (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showpost.php?p=4078225&postcount=1311)

pretty good I am trying to set up a garage-studio with some 1000w work-lights from home depot. Looks pretty good!

Yeah, it's really working out much better than the lightbox. I have so much control this way. If I had hot lights that produced less light I'd probably be inclined to stick with the lightbox to contain and isolate the light for greatest efficiency.

Using strobes and modifiers is great for this type of work and I'm finding the table to be the ultimate solution. The nice thing about it is that I can setup and breakdown quickly, converting the room back to the studio in a few minutes.
