Hi all going to the air show in atlantic city this weds and was wondering when using the 100 - 400 L IS lens show I put it into mode2 or show I use it in mode 1. I have it on the Canon 10D. Thanks in advance

Unless the planes are stationery on the ground, you want to be using Mode 2, if the planes are going horizontally across your field of view, which is usually the case. However, if you're positioned such that the planes traveling more vertically than horizontally, then you probably want to turn IS off entirely because even in Mode 2, you're going to be fighting with the IS if you don't.
