Man the review screen is so deceptive. I was chimping and saying, "take that Dwight Mcann and Rene Damkot. In your face!" LOL When I got home and opened them in LR I was disappointed. About 10% keeper rate. Any tips, tricks, comments are welcome. All shot w/50 1.8 @ 3200 in Av. Thanks to Greg Cobb for the inspiration to get me out to the club. Had a great time. Hope to do alot more.

Some nice shots for sure.
Some a bit oversharpened and over-noise reductioned I think...
That being said, I like the first three, and 5 & 7.

10% keeper rate isn't too bad... (unless the rest is unusable ;))
If you get much more, you're probabely not critical enough...

Thanks man. It must be the Noise Ninja. Just using the 30D standard setting, haven't played with it much. Sharpening is just LR Portrait-Sharpen setting.

Yeah I guess 10% isn't bad especially with the 1.8, but the other 90% were like real bad. When chimping, it looked like I was gonna get 90% keepers.

Hehehe, if it was as easy as it looks everybody could do it! Between us, Rene and I have about 500 years experience and the best equipment in the world. I would suggest that you review the FAQ. I think 10% keepers is overkill ... you aren't stretching enough. 5% is more than enough. Oh, yeah, I know about that little screen on the back ... means almost nothing ... I've had strings of 20-30 shoots that looked great in there and then I looked at them on the computer and realized that I had forgotten to refocus and had great OOF captures of exactly the instant I wanted, what a dumba$$ I was. I don't use noise reduction software so I can't make any suggestions ... other than to leave the noise unless it totally destroys the image!

Anyway, I think Rene and I (and a few others here) would LOVE to have some new meat simply beat the snot out of us with images much better than we get ... 'cause then he'd have to tell us what he did that worked so well. Really, as egotistical as I know I come across sometimes I'm really all about learning some new miracle. But you better be ready. I've a 1DMIII in hand and pre-ordered 1DsMIII and I plan to use 'em to their full potential. :-) So just keep posting and asking questions and challenging the 'old guys'.

Well, you better be careful ... my very good friend Rick Barker (Taylor Swift's manager) is moving out there in the next year and I will be coming to visit a few times and you're gonna' hafta take me out shooting 'cause I'm not going to know beans about N-town ... and I will expect to be learned up good and proper with new miracles!
