Hi everybody!!!!

Since I already own the nice Battery Grip BG-E1 I'm wondering if anyone of you guys know about the hand strap that goes with it.
I browsed B&H and was unable to find it, so i would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks a lot.

I have the hand strap. I like it a lot. I don't even use the neckstrap any more. However, it is designed so that you can use both. If you get be sure to ask your dealer on how to install it, it gets a bit confusing. I believe the part number is "E1".

Best instruction on how to install the handstrap are found in the 1Ds manual, which you can download from Canon's site.

There are no instructions packed with the strap, and it can be very confusing without the instructions.

That was by far the most fun I have ever had. The hand strap when you look at it, is next to impossible to install. Look at some instructions and you might figure it out. Good luck!

Instructions for setting up the strap are at the bottom of the ones for the grip (you know, the big sheet of paper that is still in the box .. who reads grip instructions .. right :?: ) .. or they are for the BG-ED3. It is really easy to set up .. and I use the two together.

If you use the camera with the battery grip to shoot vertically, how does the handstrap work? Or is it useless in this situation?

Useless, but at least it's not in the way, unlike the neck strap that always seems to hang directly across the viewfinder when I rotate the camera.

Great point!
I hate that!

Is there such a thing as a shoulder strap?

I bought the strap(s) for the MKII and 10D. I put one on the 10D, before we gained possession of the MKII, and I was doubtful I'd like it. It just felt weird.

Now that we have used them for several sessions, we can't live without it. It'd be like going out without your watch. Weird.

We use both the neck (Op/Tech) and (E1) hand straps. Works awesome!

Occasionally I like to carry my camera at my side instead of around my neck. The hand strap give a very secure feeling to carrying it one-handed. I bought the first one for my 10D and guessed (very badly) how it was supposed to be installed. It was on the camera and it worked, but one look at it and it was not hard to tell it was not installed properly. Someone here in the forum sent me a link to the 1Ds manual showing the proper installation, and it suddenly made sense. Of course I had it all wrong, and in hindsight, I'm probably lucky it didn't come apart.

I had to get mine online from B&H.

I ended getting mine from Michael's Cameras in Melbourne, but no one i could find had them in stock.. Michael's ordered it in for me, but it took about a month which to me imply's that Canon Oz didn't have any either!
