There is nothing that I can see wrong with the photo from a techical point of view.
But artistically, it doesn't make it for me. I suppose I expect to see more brilliant greens and more color.

Nice subject isn't it? I have also tried this a couple of times... and keep on trying every time I see a nice one. Important is that you create a good contrast between the backgound and the web and catch the light sprinkles in the little drops, or better try to find a web with larger drops.
Unfortunately, I miss both in your shot. If you would have taken a bit higher standpoint, then I think it would have been much better. Now the top part of the web completely disappears against the sky.
Well... with autumn approaching (at least in this part of the world) there will be many more opportunities for the web-shot. Good luck. (also to myself... :) )

What they said! I might have moved in & tried for a closer 'design' shot to add emphasis to the web which is the only point of interest in the pic. Maybe waited for a change in lighting or the appearence of the owner?
Sometimes you can 'tease' the web with a bit of grass & he'll come out. Sometimes not!
Maybe force some color in PS & crop in a bit.

I actually like it without the spider; although I must admit, I am a fan of desertion in photographs! I agree with the fact that the sky spoils it, losing the top part of the web, but that's obviously not your fault but rather the weather. I don't know if you could have eliminated the sky though by changing position?

I know I should have tried more of a top angle view.I was trying to get the top of the grass in the shot not thinking of how the overcast sky would effect the outcome of theweb in the pic.
