I am new to this Hobby and loving it, but i must mention that both these were taken using my trusty Canon Pocket Ixus 800 and NOT my 30D.

Both views are from the end of my street in Blackpool. :D

I really like the composition of the first one. On the second one the horizon is not level.

Yes, the first one's clearly the "pic" :-). You've opted for the sun a bit more than a third in, which I actually find a bit of a relief... you can always say it's closer to the golden ratio positioning. Suns a bit harsh though, looking a little blown/over-exposed. Can't help wondering if things wouldn't have got more interesting and colourful over the next ten minutes. Great view to have from your own street though - should definitely keep going back there and working it... contrasting your shots and learning what works best. Also look for some small foreground detail. Get your camera closer to the ground, and get some grass, sticks, lines in the sand, posts, anything interesting you can find into the foreground to enhance the sense of depth and lead the eye down into the ocean. Cheers, Tony

The first definately wins for me, cool and peaceful. The second doesn't work because the DOF is too shallow, I usually shoot a landscape shot above f/8. A good effort and lucky to live by the sea! :)

They are lovely shots..but one thing confuses me - Shot #1 is labeled "Sunrise in Rossall", and Shot #2 is labeled "Rossall Sunset".

Does this beach offer both an East and a West exposure??

Amazing shots from a P&S, where dept of field is hard to do. I liked both shots. The reason I liked the second shot was the cloud line passing through the sun gave the impression of a false horizon, causing me to look to the left to find the real. That gave depth to the shot.

You spotted the deliberate typo that i hadnt noticed until now myself.
They are of course both sunsets, not sun rises.:oops:

Hey.. no problem! They are great shots.. especially considering it was a P&S used. I live by the beach, and can only get sunrises... it bothers me that I can't get sunsets without travelling a 100 miles West to the Gulf Coast of Florida!

Keep up the good work!

Nothing to laugh in your stream, some very nice photos.
I would suggest that you start your own thread in the future. Get more notice that way.

Thanks for your comments.

BTW I didn't start a new thread because I'm new here and some mods don't like people starting new threads on similar subject. Just treading carefully until I get to grips with it.

Posting new photos new a in thread no problem that I can see.

Might mean more like which lens should I buy, or whats better type of stuff thats been asked 1000 times, stuff of that nature doesn't require a new thread.

Peoples photos deserve a new thread. ;)
Unless adding to a current lens pool of course...
