Sorry, Greg, but us northerners need them northern lights to make the brides sparkle. You'll just have to fly to us. And buy us dinner too. Oh, and the coffee is only five bucks a cup in Albany, and there's 20 of us at least.

;)

Hey Mark, would you be interested in meeting up in VT for a 3 day weekend?

five bucks ($5) a cup of coffee!!! actually that's not so bad considering a Costa Café at a service station charges £3.60 for a medium hot choc.... that's roughly $7 and our "Medium" is actually very small!

Maybe Feb or March. I gotta plan something now, because the $99.00 a night deal ends soon.

the $5 coffee is a story in itself. We all paid for the meeting room at the Desmond, we stayed for two nights at the desmond, we paid for their catered lunch. Then when someone came to our meeting room and asked if we'd like coffee. Of course we said yes. Then he said it would be $5 a head. We were all like, WTF??? and then we passed on the coffee. we couldn't believe it. Most meeting rooms COME with a coffee service included.

oh hey wow! you had a door to door coffee salesman :) it's a well known scam... get someone to want something, then charge them, hehehe...

I'm in with me and my daughter. If you need me to send you money, I will. Let me know

And while I may suck at wedding shots, I ain't half bad at skiing and boarding shots coming off jumps, as I lay on the ground and risk life and limb with my fisheye :)

Yeah, FIVE BUCKS a head for coffee. The hotel would have made a hundred bucks on twenty people, and it would have been like Maxwell House Drip at two bucks a can. Figure a 95 dollar profit. :(

I assume you all received the complimentary 4 sachets of coffee in your rooms?

SuzyView
8th of November 2007 (Thu), 12:28
I'm sure the charge was more for the service than the actual coffee. For that much we could have gone down the street and had whatever we wanted. Next time we'll have to see if we can add $5 to the room charge and get drinks all day. Now, that would have been worth it.

LOL, I think quite the opposite. You Yankee's need to come down south and photograph some of our beautiful southern bell's. They don't need any help from any fancy smancy northern lighting. Southern girls light up any room they enter! Hey you met Kathy, need I say more ;)

Anyway, If I got to fly that far your buying and it won't be a cup of coffee either!

Lloyd, about looking retarded..... nah, fughedaboutit, you look way cool, dude.

And as Suzy said and I'll reiterate once again, it was awesome meeting you people. The seminar was beyond fun and I truly learned a lot. And I'm a real slow learner.

This raises an interesting question:

There are some absolutely marvelous cheeses that smell like dirty socks. They tend to be expensive. If in fact things taste like they smell, maybe we could save money buy eating dirty socks.

You might just be onto something here.

Here's another interesting question:

Who should be the first to try?

Oh, I finally caught up on this thread. Been so busy.

Rich saw us all with our 70-200 2.8 IS lenses running around. Almost everyone had one and I think it was clear that he would need to get one. I can't imagine shooting an event without it. Most of us who shoot weddings use it, with flash, without flash, on a bracket, without a bracket. But it is one of the best tools for close-ups if you are not considering the 85L. That is something I'd love to afford. :)

I hopefully have a buyer for my non-IS lens (70-200 2.8). I have an 85 1.8, but the flexibility of the zoom at 2.8 with IS will be a nice upgrade. I will still hold onto my primes for portraits. Thanks for talking me into upgrading, just waiting on UPS now.

haha, reminds me of wines. I'm not a wine connoisseur, but I always enjoy drinking some nice wine when I visit with my brother (who is really into wines). Some descriptions for wine... barnyard, leathery?? Those two flavors aren't the first thing I think of stuff that tastes good.

There is a corollory to your argument...some things do not taste as good as they smell.

Case in point: liver & onions smell wonderful in the kitchen and taste like old leather shoes on the plate :(

Another is coffee...I will find a cup of coffee someday that tates as good it smells when brewing! Closest I have found is Kona coffee.

Hey guys,

I've had such a past week that could barely go online to check my e-mail, let alone read the posts here. Not sure if I can catch up with everything now but wanted to explain my silence, not to be taken for ignorance.

Among other things last week, I judged a Miss Teen NYC/Long Island pageant for two days. Must tell you - posing and photography skills (in terms of finding the character and highlighting the feminism) really help you in such experience.

After our meeting, I bought a second flash, 580EX II, and will start practicing with these little fellas to lighten my load occasionally. :) On the market for portable battery packs for the flashes now.

Best regards.

I haven't taken a single photo, I was among the six busy judges (imagine me sneaking pics while at it...) Event photographers took few photos of us with the winners, not sure if I will get those. Yes, the contestants were 13-15 year-old, so no swimsuits, of course.

Hey Mike, I forgot. Which was the grapefruit beer? I just bought a bunch of beers for Thanksgiving tasting. Couldn't find them all. Really want to find the Dogs Head World Wide Stoudt.

I was putting some shots on Cd for the girls and wanted to post this one.
Cheers All!

Mikey, nice one. I do see some faint tan lines. You may want to smooth those out, or not. Was she the one who was too thin for the dress? Models. :)

I'm pretty sure that was the Arrogant B*stard beer?

Thanks Suzie. Yeah, she's the one that had a tiny bit of chicken and a couple of celery sticks for lunch. Twiggy, but cute.

I'm raising up this thread, maybe I'll get into trouble, but I want to do another meet for the wedding photographers again this fall, in Virginia, maybe in the Williamburg or Virginia Beach area. What do you say?

I'm in, I'm originally from VA, and still have family there. So I'd like to meet up!
