Hi everyone. I've had my rebel for over a month now and I really love it. I enjoy looking at the histogram of every picture right away. I have review picture set to 8 seconds but after I take the picture only the picture shows up and no info. If I press the info button during the review section it just cancels the picture and thats all. The only way I can figure out to view the hisogram is to hit the play button then scroll to the picture I just took and press info there. There must be a way to automatically view it during the picture review after its taken or something. I'm getting way to lazy for this.. ><

set review to "On (Info)" in the Menu

In the menu settings of my 10D, there's "Review" with options: Off, On, and On (Info). "On (Info)" shows the histogram. I imagine it's the same on the DRebel?

Omg, I'm so blind. I've went through that menu a million times. >< I never noticed that extra On (info) selection before. Thank you so much. I would never have noticed it on my own... and yes I can read. lol

I didn't figure that one out myself until fairly recently.

Um, it's in the manual.

You did read the manual, did you?

Manual? Who reads manuals? :) I'm a techie. I don't read manuals, I figure things out... unless it's a radio network controller, multimedia gateway or anything else that requires more than a few buttons to operate.

Honestly though, I didn't know until recently that I was even supposed to look at the histogram.

Egad, I hate people like that.
By "I figure things out" you mean you ask everybody else?

I know a couple people that work at tech support call centers, and are service technicians. They both agree that if everybody read their manuals, tech support calls would be reduced by about 90%

No, I mean I figure things out for myself. In fact, I don't believe I've asked such questions where the answer can be found in the manual (I wouldn't bet on it though ;)). Of course, it's silly to say that I never check the manual. If I get stuck, I open the manual. But I consider most consumer electronics as toys. I play first, ask questions later. And by that, I mean refer to the manual. It's more fun that way. I'm just not the type who'd sit and read a manual cover-to-cover before turning the power on. The only time I do that is when I'm installing a new motherboard.

Tell me about it! I have a similar job maintaining a network. The network monitoring people see an alarm come up and immediately ask for support. "What's this alarm?" "Well, if you'll check the documentation we provide you'll see that you can simply ignore it." I really hate it when this happens and they wake me up in the middle of the night. :x

Oh, by the way, my manual's in Japanese so I couldn't read it even if I wanted to. ;) Yes, I was able to download the english PDF version later. :)

C'mon, that's part of the process...

1. Buy camera
2. Learn Japanese
3. Read manual from front to back

Actually, I'm just one of those rare people that like reading the manuals.
I have a couple relatives who won't read the manual no matter what.
My bro once bought a DVD player, and spent all afternoon and evening trying to figure out how to hook it up. I came over, looked in the manual (which he scoffed at) and had it hooked up in 10 minutes, and I'm no genius!

There are times, however, when there is just a nagging little function that you just can't seem to find in the manual. I think this thread may be a good example of it.

Hahaha! I'd probably still be stuck at step 2. Although I might be past the first page by now. :)

Good story about your bro! :) I'm the official "hooker upper" in our family too. My sister could read the manual through and still not get it.

Manual? Ohh that book that normally comes with new things. My so called "new" camera from Amazon didn't include a manual and came with a scratched up Elements cd that doesn't work. =|
