View Full Version : Wedding Photography... ugh.

I was at a friend's wedding this past weekend, and had a miserable time doing candids.(first wedding w/my DRebel) It was the most inconsiderate, rude crowd of people you would ever want to meet.

With the pro's permission, I was allowed to tag along & click away, as long as it didn't interfere with her.

I actually had people bumping into me while shooting, people holding thier cameras above their heads directly in front of my shot , and people walking into the shot when they obviously saw I was taking a picture.

Afterwards, the pro & I were talking, and she asked when was I going to turn pro. I quickly replied, "It was never a goal of mine, but after today's episodes, there's a better chance of me winning the lottery 2 weeks in a row.". She then said, "I said the same exact thing after my first time out. You'll see." (yeah, right)

I know that I now have LESS THAN ZERO interest in "going pro", but I will say that I have a new found appreciation for Wedding Photographers.

I was so mad after I got home, I deleted all of the pictures off of both cards. :(

Sorry, had to vent. :)

Wait until your on assignment, the only shot they want is the winning driver exiting the car. Just as he is about to do that, a TV reporter steps in the way and his camera man follows forming a brick wall that no one could penetrate.

When the shot was over and obviously gone the reporter turned and said to the shooters, "Oh sorry guys was I in your way?" One guy said yeah but that ok, I unplugged your voice lead to the camera. Both guys panicked for just a second.

It was not by accident that happened and next time I will know to get a little behind the drivers door instead of in front of it.

In my case it was 3 of them. If I ever get a chance to walk in front of CBS, I'll do it, even though I'm just taking snapshots now.

What a SOB. Like he didn't know he stepped in. I beleive in carma, so I'm sure he'd trip "accidentally" when passing me with his fn camera smashing to pieces.

Tsk, tsk.

I would never dream of tripping another fellow photographer.

However, if the camera guy had any power cables leading from his waist-belt battery pack to the camera, he would be surprised if a straight pin accidentally found its way through the center of the cable (thereby shorting it out).

At a wedding, sometimes there is a video team trying to get footage at the same time that the still photo team is trying to get shots of the cake cutting. We (the still photo team) has one extra hidden player whose job it is to block the video team, by accident, of course.

We just don't want their damned sun gun lights screwing up our still photos.

1) I am talking about a CAMERA MAN, so he's definitely not a photog.
2) I was talking about CARMA. Things happen... If a "fellow photog" is being a pain and steps in, carma will do it's work... Sooner or later...

1. A man with a camera is a photographer.
2. The word is Karma.

I don't know. You send them to school. You give them books. Still, they don't learn anything!

It is called an opinion and I am sure you have never spelled anything wrong.

1. A man with a camera is a photographer.

In the TV trade, the term is "Camera Operator". In this case, the generic term is "Assh*le".

"Oh sorry guys was I in your way?"

I understand that they have a job to do, & I would be inclined to help them do it if they would just try to share the space, but when they say something like that, we all know what they’re really saying & I resent the attitude.

Hmmmm.... those long lenses have bayonet mounts. I suggest we start using them ;-) That'll prevent and [photog.|photographer|camera man|assh*le] from getting in the way.

Pardon my spelling then. English is my third language. I started studying it 3 years ago.
