Can anybody point me to a good depth of field calculator on a web site.
I have just bought a 100-400 IS and visited a couple of motor bike meetings where the results have been, quite frankly, very disappointing because they are out of focus, some not just slightly. I am using the whole zoom range so I realise that at 400mm it is really 640 with my D60 but still having problems. Through the screen they look ok becasue it is such a small viewfinder even when magnified.

I am using a monopod with IS off, head-on shooting at 1/500 sec and panning at about 125 upwards.

Any help would be gratefully received

Been talked about here several times. Search is your friend. For instance (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=28473&highlight=depth+field+calcu lator)

There are several mentioned in the EOS forum, in a Sticky post at the top - All The Best Links it's called, or something like that.

Paul,

First thing I would say is take the lens off a monopod. It doesn't need it and you will have more freedom to shoot.

Second, switch IS on. If shooting straight on, shoot in mode 1, if panning shoot in mode 2.

Thirdly, set AF to Servo (if the D60 has it).

Cheers
