Heres something I never had happen before on a Canon camera-

The button sticks! I found it out when my fully recharged battery was dead when I took it out of the bag. I guess the camera tried to focus until it ran oit of juice. When I put in a new battery thats when I found out it was sticking the first position.

Anyone in the forum had the top plate of their 10D off? I cant see the wait OR the bill from Canon to clean the button out, but I do know sometimes there are some special hidden fasteners and or tabs to watch out for in disassembly.

Tips are appreciated.

Er.. I'd send it to Canon..

In the meantime you could use CFN#4 to set AF and AE to the back center thumb button?....

Actually I guess it would still drain the battery.. (pressing the shutter would keep "waking it up") ...but at least it wouldn't be changing AE or AF on you all the time if you wanted to use it.

whenever I take something complicated like this apart I always end up with extra parts...I'd send it to Canon

I took a Rebel G apart once to change the display .. some of the tiny screws were under the soft grip material .. this has to be eased back (carefully).
I would send it back to Canon .. at least you'd get it serviced as well

I would rather drink a fifth of 30 year old scotch in an hour before I opened my camera up. The thing is, I'd sober up the next day. My camera would still be broken. :~(

Christ I'd drink a fifth of 30 year old scotch if it was put in front of me any day of the week!

CDS,

You have to understand that when I was in college, from what I CAN remember, I did just that. Even if it weren't 30 yr. Now, at 43, if drink three Bud Lights in one evening my wife refuses to allow me to converse with anyone. Marriage and age will do this to you.

No wonder some of you won't attempt it. Alcohol has too much involvement. :D

Instead of using the sidebar to advance the pages, use the arrow keys at the bottom. You can only view 32 pages. I didn't take the time to see exactly what it would show, but I could advance.

Pete,

After looking at some of the pages on this site, I definitly would have to start drinking again to attempt to repair my camera. There is a very good reason I'm not a car mechanic.
