I just want to ask the Canon Digital Rebel users:
what are the differences between the BP-511 and BP-512 batteries? (if there's any)

and...
Is it allright to buy some generic batteries instead of the original?
I'm planing to buy a 1600mAh generic battery.
Here you can see the link:

Have anyone tried this battery?
should I buy it?

Thanks in advance!.

A true BP-511 battery can fit into a camera designed for BP-511 or BP-512.

However, a BP-512 battery probably will not fit into a camera designed for BP-511.

The two batteries are very similar, except that the case of the BP-512 is slightly different.

For your purposes of a Digital Rebel, this one should be fine.

I have on of those batteries in my Drebel, works great and lasts longer than the canon one. The canon is 1100mAh and the "cheap" one is 1600mAh. Been using it for 7 months whithout a problem.

now here is the thing
they are just a little bit different in design but look at the 'mAh' #
this will tell you how much power it has
the ones i got from http://bluenook.com were the BP-511 rated at 1500mAh
