I'm just curious on how many people here are CPS members.

I applied my membership about 3 weeks ago, and received an email today with my membership granted, they are posting my member card soon.

What are the main benefit of being a CPS member? I've checked on the site(Canon Europe), they have various centres located throughout Europe if you need assistant when travelling. Any other great benefits?

for Canon Europe: http://www.cps.canon-europe.com/home.jsp

I'm not sure about how much benefit there is for CPS members, but i'm sure there is and if i ever need it, it'll be very handy.

plus membership is free, and not everyone who applies will be granted, i've got nothing to lose here

That's for professionals only. The requirements include also two Professional AF Canon SLR bodies and three Canon L series lenses...

From what I understand, rights of membership included expedited repairs and loaners, but I'm sure there must be other things too. Those were just the ones that caught my eye.

10D is not considered a pro body?

CPS Europe say it is.

I am a member. You get invites to roadshows with hands-on of new equipment, a free subscription to EOS magazine (they run CPS in the UK), supposedly priority for repairs or service (experience shows otherwise), loan equipment (no comment) and a plastic membership card.

It only really comes into use at events like the Olympics or the Grand Prix. Anything less than that CPS don't attend.

I'm a CPS member. You also get invites to play with the newest toys like the 1D Mk2

I think it's worth joining if they will have you and you meet their criteria.

Best regards

... and CPS the Netherlands say it isn't. I got my CPS confirmation e-mail in English and in Dutch the following was added: Unfortunately the 10D doesn't fall in the category of cameras we consider as professional. For this reason we won't provide a back-up for this camera while it is being repaired.

Hmmm. I still pay for my EOS magazine, have not yet had an invitation to a roadshow (mind you I only obtained my CPS at the end of April) but I do have my plastic card. I had a lens repaired recently but forgot to flash my card so I can't tell if it would have helped.

This sounds interesting. I might be good to join. However... membership may be free but it's definitely not cheap to join. 2 pro bodies and 3 L's? That'll set me back quite a bit. Currently, I only have 1 of each.

If you have to ask, then you won't be eligible anyway

(Sorry, couldn't resist)

I've seen a lot of interesting items in this thread.

In the USA, CPS gets you expedited repairs, and equipment loans.

The repair part seems to work since I have had to take advantage of it NUMEROUS times with exposure trouble on my D30.

The equipment for loan seems to be sparse, and what you would like to try and what is available never seem to match. Also the people who do the loans seem to be on the road a lot and delays in response are inevitable.

A body loan?? Ha-ha! Thats a good one!!

Sounds like the Europeans get a much better deal that the States gets.

Just the same I am glad the program exists, but I think it has more potential.

The aim of CPS is to support the working pro. The idea is excellent and the criteria is supposed to make sure that only pros apply. The 10D body is accepted as pro status in the UK but I am pretty sure that they expect the other camera to be a 1 series.

Using CPS membership to nudge along a repair generally works, but don't expect them to give you a same-day turn around as they probably have other CPS member's equipment to repair as well as yours.

Hi Ken,
How is the Mk2 - I suppose you got it from Merrion Centre?

I joined 3 months ago and they are pretty good!

As said, you get the free EOS mag (I now have 2 copies of everything... doh!)

You also get the details of the big events, where they will service your camera and offer loan/trial equipment.

So if you are in Athens right now you could get yr sensor cleaned for free!!!!!

Hi Ken,

Yes, my friend Ruth looks after me. To be honest, after a full day running it alongside the 1D I'm not that happy with the results and the amount of post-process work needed image by image. Maybe good enough for the cheap print quality of MSN but not good enough for the glossy mags. The old 4mp workhorse just bangs out ready to use images of excellent quality with nailed on focus and I can't face the extra work with the MK-II.

I met a couple of other owners of both models and they have regrets too. Wonder how Tony feels about his.

No... thanls for the sentiment.. but I actually haven't applied :)

I do know that in the UK you can go to a website and fill out an application.. here in the states there are more hoops to jump through and no website :)

Ken,
As both the 1DMk2s that you and Tony are using are ones that I passed up I feel a little guilty if one is below par - remember they are BOTH my cast-offs after all!

Tony is delighted with his. He has been down with me today and we have had some 45x30 prints (that's in inches by the way) done from a couple of his images.
Believe me when I say that the 45"x30" prints are stunning - one a Superbike (135/2L) and the other a macro shot (180/3.5L) - done on Fuji Crystal Archive Paper on a Durst Epsilon printer.

If you want to sell me your S/H 1DMk2 I might just take you up on the offer!
