Hello-
I'm looking to buy my first stuido flash setup...only problem is, I don't have a studio. So for the time being, battery-based setups are important to me.
The whole process is quite overwhelming given how many brands, manufacturer kits, B&H-only kits, etc there are. I've spent hours and hours watching lighting tutorials on YouTube, have learned a lot about lighting, but very little about what equipment is best.
This is what I figure I'll need per light:
- lightstand
- umbrella
- softbox
- light
- battery/generator
I'm trying to decide between Profoto's AcuteB 600R, Profoto's Pro-7b or Elinchrom's Ranger RX-AS.
From what I've read Elinchrom's heads are rated at 2400Ws. How is that possible when they're dedicated to battery units which can only provide 1100Ws to begin with?
For some reason I've always been leaning towards Profoto. I like the modularity of having two 600R kits rather than one Pro-7b powering two heads.
And when I say "kit" I mean B&H offers a free AcuteB 600 head with 600R generator: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/468512-REG/Profoto_501601_AcuteB_600R_Battery_Powered_Generat or.html)
Add stand, umbrella, softbox, (and PocketWizard trigger for the camera) and that will get me started. Then if everything goes well, I can buy another setup when I'm ready.
Does this make sense? Am I missing anything?
Thanks for any input!
