Hello all,

I have foolishly entered into a "handshake" deal with a company to provide photos of their equipment in use by company team players.

This transaction was (so I thought) to be between me and one company individual. We agreed that if I got something they wanted I would be trading my photos for company products. As I am a new to this game and wanted the work I figured this barter would get me in the door, so I agreed.

A couple of days ago two advertising agencies contacted me that represented the company. They wanted the so see the photos and I provided low res versions to them. In the interim I made a number of calls to my company contact to see what was going on and if working with them was OK. Yes, was his answer and that he and I would work out the details of our “barter” later. Off go Hi-Res photo to both ad agencies.

In communication with one of the ad agencies I found out the 8 photos they wanted were going to be used for a product catalog. Further the catalog would be 125,000 copies and the photos “should” be one time use. The other agency picked 2 different photos supposedly for the same reason.

I know I am upside down and bassakwards on the whole deal. But I think the company contact will play fair. So what value do I place on the photos?

I found the following using the POTN search function AND searching this topic.

Type of Use:: Advertising
Specific Use:: Brochures / Catalogs
Press Run:: 100,000 to 250,000
Size:: 1/2 Page
Low Price:: $450.00
Average Price:: $700.00
High Price:: $950.00

Does this make sense? Hell, do I make sense?

Thank you all.

Patrick

Well, I've have some articles printed but nothing used for advertising.

the Site I used and the description you gave came to:
Average Price of 874.00 that's if they use a 1/2 page ad and print up to 200,000.
Hope that helps.
Sounds like you should be getting alot of equipment.

So what value do I place on the photos? Ever heard the saying, "He who speaks first, loses"? See what they offer. With your pricing research as ammunition, you have the option to accept, counteroffer, or refuse.
