Can someone tell me what they use to safely mail letter size images out? I can do the 13x19 but don't expect to be mailing too many of them. I just need 20 or so 8.5x11 mailers that will protect the image in the mail.

Thanks for any advice... I'm not sure where to look!

Hey!

In general protection of my photos, I have been using a company called Impact Images. They manufacture clear protective sleeves and envelopes for photographs. They also have backer boards in many different sizes.

I usually put my 8.5 x 11 in one of these protective bags with a backer board, and then put that in a 9 x 12 manilla envelope for mailing. Otherwise, the USPS also has photo mailers.

Impact Images website is

www.clearbags.com

Just my 2 cents...

Cheers!

The photo places (ie.. shutterfly or yorkphoto) send them in 9x12 minilla envelopes with heavy cardboard on each side. They stamp "photographs inside, do not bend" on both sides. I have not had any trouble with damaged photos yet!!

If you don't send that many 8x10's out, I would go to a Teachers Supply store and buy a sheet of poster board and cut your own. That's what I've done.

You might be able to buy them at Staples/Office Depot in the quantity (20?) that you need, but if you need much more you should check out a local mom and pop print shop. I buy about 500 at a time and they cut them for me.

You can get cheap "chip-board" in 30"x40" sheets (same as matte board) at a good artist supply store.

Of course heavy mailers are available from different suppliers, but the drugstore and the post office sell tham at badly inflated prices. Check out Freund Container (Chicago, IL) for heavy envelopes at decent prices. 800.363.9822
