I'm getting a little tired of the rebate scams. I know, just pay full price or get your best discount and don't fool with 'em some will say. But *&@#! darn it these are well known manufacturers and retailers playing this game. Yes it's $5 here and $10 there but it adds up, over $50 so far on three items. I'm ready to name names but want the moderators blessing before I do. What about a sticky for rebate rip-offs? :evil:

Here is my story!

On Apr 4, I bought a DVD from CompUSA. It had 2 rebates totaling $45 . CompUSA printed out the forms at the register, I took them home, filled them out properly and mailed them in. I tried to track online, like they said, several times and then forgot about them. On 8/3 I remembered and sent a e-mail to where they said to e-mail if it took too long. No answer. Today I finally got around to calling the rebate center. Guess What? CompUSA put the wrong rebate number on the register print out. The person I talked to corrected the information in the system and said I sould get a check in 8-10 days :D

I never did get my $175 worth of rebates on L lens purchases. 6 phone calls, 13 emails. Nothing.

i think the general thought is they hope they can keep your money. kind of like a "sort of" sale. they make it so hard to get your money, that they know only 20% will jump through those kind of hoops. always some reason why your ineligable. they sure advertise it big time. :x

I got all three rebates I submitted to Canon USA, on an L lens, an IS lens, and some IS binoculars. Only got email notification for one of them, but all three checks arrived in the same envelope. All were sent and recieved within 5 weeks.

I bought a CF card from Office Max that had a $20 rebate. I sent in the form with the appropriate upc and receipt and was told I had the wrong product. I resent the same items and told them they made a mistake and I got $10.

I will not buy from Office Max again, even though I know that it was some other company that they hired that stuck it to me.

Now that you mention it, I don't think I got my rebates from Canon. Purchased and submitted December 2003 or January 2004. Forgot all about it. I need to check with my wife - perhaps my memory fails.

I got my Canon rebates, first for the A80/i860 combo, then for 2 lenses (which shipped separately, but they still gave me the doubled amount when I submitted for the second) beginning of the year, then on the next round of lens rebates when I got the 100-400. Also got the free Pinnacle software with the ZR70, even though they sent me a card saying I didn't qualify (?).

Only rebate I haven't gotten in the last few years was for Tax Cut, when they misread a blurred postmark to decide I was outside the time window (although they gave me the rebate for TaxCut State bought and submitted the same times).
