Backgrounds

We are purchasing our first set of backgrounds and support systems. Any suggestions from everyone on brands that are reliable and any full set systems (we are looking strictly for black and white backgrounds). Is muslin ok or should we go canvas? We are doing a banquet in a convention center and then will be using this in our in home studio.
