Hi All,

Been trying to get hold of 100-400 L from Amazon but they don’t seem to have it often. Their site says “In stock soon. Order now to get in line. First come, first served.” My question is: if I place an order would they ship it and charge my CC automatically or they will notify me first so I can order it myself.

Thanks

My experience with Amazon is that once you place an order, you should expect them to ship it when it comes in. They will not get back in touch with you to confirm whether you still want it. That said, they also give you the ability to change or cancel your order online (prior to it arriving at their warehouse), and they don't charge you until it ships.

Thanks rsnadel. Guess I'll keep checking every once in a while.

My experience has been that if you order an item which they don't have in stock yet is that your order is in a sort of pending state. Your CC is not charged and you can cancel or change your order if you wish. If the order is outstanding for a while, then they will send you a confirmation-type email telling you that the item still is not in stock and asking you if you still wait for it. If you do, then there is nothing you need to do. However, if you do wish to cancel the order then you can respond to the email and the order will be cancelled.

I think the longest I waited was about 2 1/2 months for an LCD monitor because the price was almost $200 cheaper than anybody else sold them for, and even what Amazon is selling it for now.

Hi PacAce,

I think i've been waiting for that lens for more than 2 1/2 months (from amazon).

One of the reasons I prefer to buy lenses from amazon is that the others, say B&H, would allow customers to try the lens for a while then allow them to return it if they don't like it. Then they would sell it to another customer.

I assume amazon doesn't do that, or at least not as extensively as a brick & mortar shop. So, according to my thinking, there is a higher chance of getting an untouched lens. This is important for international buyers as returning an item is a big hassle.

What do you think of that assumption. Does it make sense.

Amazon lets you try it and return it.. Not that I've done it before myself.. err *runs*
