Does anyone know what the coloured inset on one end of the battery is for?
The reason I ask is my original battery has this coloured the same as the casing. However, on a Canon spare I've just bought, it's more of a violet colour.

Don't see anything on mine, try posting a photo of it.

Hi
This is taken freehand using macro, so isn't one of my best, but does show the violet area on the end of the battery.

I have the same thing on my canon.
My guess is that there's a screw behind this thing which would allow you to disassemble the battery. And void the warranty.

Nothing like that on the battery that came with my D60.
