has anyone here ever used the portable canon printer? The one that does not need to be connected to a printer...just the canon dig camera.
Is it any good?

I have not used Canon's portable printer. However, I do own an HP Photosmart 100. It is small, portable [but still needs AC power] and prints 4x6 images directly from your memory card.
Being small, it does not have a preview window. However, it is easy to print the last picture you've taken or print a range of pictures such as 5 through 8. You can also create an index print using thumnail size pictures.
This printer reads the three major memory cards: the Compact Flash card you use in your Cannon digital camera; smart media cards; and Sony memory sticks.
The HP photosmart 100 connects to a computer via a USB cable.
I also use this printer to upload pictures from my memory cards. The memory card reader is treated as a removable disk drive just like a floppy drive or zip disk drive.

Hey Star,
Which one?? There are four 'direct' printers that don't need a computer, the CD10 (credit card size prints only), CD100 (better, can print up to postcard & L size) or the CD300 (best, prints 6X4) and the S820D (photo quality inkjet designed to work with your memory card). The first three are the more portable machines, and print using a dye sublimation based process, and laminate the prints too...

I'm not sure of the model number, but I know it has to print from the camera, not the memory card, and I know it prints 4x6 prints...but that's all I know.
