anyone have any experiences with the converters that allow you to mount the older Canon FD lenses to the EOS (10D, A2e) bodies?

My father has DOZENS of older Canon lenses (300mm 2.8 and some other pretty high end glass)
I'l love to be able to 'borrow' a few from him.
Do they work? Are there limitations? Optics?
