View Full Version : Where's the fun?

OK, this is a great forum.

It always has been. (Nice one Pekka, thumbs up to the mods too! :) )

But every now an then I see a bit of banter, a joke, someone being witty, something that makes me and others smile.... and then some fool goes and takes it all deadly serious and has to chip in with their opinion/put down.

So to these people who don't seem to recognise humour, please, lighten up!

As one who has occasionally been accused of going too far in the pursuit of levity, I feel obliged to say I couldn't agree more. There do seem to be some totally humorless individuals who either choose to be thus, or who just don't get the humor.

I think the liberal use of emoticons will help the latter group, but there is little hope for the former.

We must be patient.

I too agree.

Maybe i'm just not funny, but i thought my 20D hack thread was funny...i got a negative reply. And then of course like any other 20D thread the subject changed.

Since I was the one that questioned that thread I guess a response is in order.

I just did not see any humor in it and since You used these smilies   it indicated to me that You were mad at something??? Maybe You where referencing something else either here or on a different forum but there were no indication of that. And maybe if You had left out the evil smillies I would have seen it as a joke.....

Its not that You can't be funny, I have seen that on prevoius threads but in that one You did not relay the humor to me

Hmm, and maybe thats the problem! Why stir trouble? That will only result in well the results You get and then You really can't complain because You got what You asked for, am I right or am I wrong?

Well now, this is an area in which I have some expertise.

TQ’s use of the ‘evil’ emoticon was perfectly appropriate in the context of his deviant ‘20D Hack’ humor. He was satirizing all the hubbub that cropped up shortly after the Drebel’s release last year during which time we had such things as petitions for firmware upgrades from Canon and other assorted discussions.

I don’t think the fiendish little emoticon really depicts anger. We have another one for that. :x (mad) (very mad)

Anyway, I got it, and that's why I chimed in with my comment on 'back focusing.' Maybe a little history is not such a good thing.   :? :(  :D  :o

Well then, I guess we have to demand that Pekka creates a special field in our profiles to explain what smilies mean to each of us

Because to me

 means really mad or angry
 means extremely angry and pissed and want to kill someone

Sense of humour?

I had one of those but sold it for a case of beer and a lawn mower.

Did someone mention they were leaving on vacation? (notice little devil dude is smiling as it's twisted evil schemes are about to come ALIVE!)

I think we have just seen how it can a) go wrong and b) be put right again.
Tommy and Timmy (oh dear... did that sound bad to anyone else?) just had a misunderstanding over use of smilies, and indeed it is a common misunderstanding to have... I know, I've been there.

I'm sure everyone comes onto a forum as part of their hobby, for fun, entertainment and also to get some damn good tips/info. Some come here to share their knowledge, some to gain knowledge. But I hope I would be right in saying we all come here because we love photography, which is great. Lets not have the small misunderstandings tarnish that!

 :D :) :P  :p

Gratuitous use of smilies optional.... ;)

Oh sh!t, .... RUUUUUUN !

We need some more emoticons here....
For example, to best describe the timmyquest vs. tommykjensen match in this thread this is the best emoticon:
http://fifthgearonline.com/ZylexSNL/images/smilies/argue.gif

and a more appropriate equivalent for tommykjensen's description:
http://fifthgearonline.com/ZylexSNL/images/smilies/ak47.gif

In spite of taking a beating for what I am about to say, I hate those little emoticons. I have only used them one time and it was due to losing a bet on a message board over a football game.

Never will you see one of those disgusting little yellow round heads on any of my posts.

You guys crack me up!

I, too, appreciate the humor and levity on this forum, and I wouldn't mind even more of it. :)

A note, however, to our native English speakers on both sides of the Atlantic and "down below": not everyone will "get it". Get it? ;)

By the way, I love the little yellow faces. They're very important, especially in a multi-lingual, multi-cultural environment. 8)

There must be either a generational or cultural gap between our "T" friends.

I read TQ's thread about the D20 hack, which was sooo funny. Then came the other T's response...woow, where did it come from.

Don't know where I'm going with this. I guess just to say "generational or cultural gap" :D It's fun to use big words, try it.

If You have read this thread from the beginning You should know why that occurred. Simply different understanding of what the smilie  means!

That far away?

In the year 2050 there will be rehab available for incorrect smiley usage

Let's just make one thing perfectly unclear.

So long as we all misundertand eachother's use of the confusing smilies in our own unique fashion, then we can all learn to not get along with eachother peacefully!

    = twisted evil really mad and want to kill someone..

Ha ha. the 49ers are pratically a team of rookies. If beating them makes you happy, then i'm cool with that.

Btw, heard Da Bears didn't play very well either.
