I haven't posted in a while -- been shooting a lot and working and the summer seems to have sped by and I still haven't gone trout fishing....anyway. This is Buffa and Jack - an arabian and quarter horse I've been spending time with all summer.
Any comments appreciated. Photo's been altered in PS. Couple of layers and some contrast/select color things.

It is a lovely scene.
One thing that I was not sure of (I am not a Web expert) was wheter this image retains the Adobe RGB (1998) mode that you assigned in your post. My eyes says that it doesn't. Now that is a shame; since, when invoked via color management, your image brightens, and introduces subtle color that is so much more inviting. It is a lovely picture and a lovely horse.
My only wish would have been for a better look at their faces and a bit more of their bodies. As to whether a higher shooting angle would add, I would not know without taking more shot.
It is interesting to note that I tried to take the exact same shot at a riverside farm in the micro-town of Port-au-Persil last month.
One horse was like your grey. The other would lift its head over the grey' s mid-back. Both wold squeeze against the siade of the barn. I never caught the image although I tried about 10 times.

i cant say i am a fan...the img is pretty dark...and I dont care for the way the photo is cropped. Not your typical horse picture at least.

I kind of like it...looks very much like a painting, not a photo. Interesting effect

Thanks.....it is adobe rgb......and yes the colors are pretty muted which was intentional on my part....i was looking for a darker scene, more moodiness to match the angle of the shot and the position of their bodies....and no its not your typical horse shot, but I wasn't looking to shoot a typical shot either and I guess I can safely say, I'm never looking for the typical shot of anything(I might see it and shoot it but I rarely leave it alone)
....granted I'm shooting arabians which are elegant and the horses horse so to speak......but if you hang with em long enough, they do the same things other horses do....and I tend to walk into shooting with the thought in my head of "what do I see that someone else doesn't see".....so I walk around a lot and squat and lay down and climb trees or ladders, etc.
For this one, I happened to be squatting on the ground and jack and buffa wanted to see what I was doing....so I shot.
Thanks for the feedback! Its all appreciated.

What is the white blob between the white horse's rear legs? Is that horizon? Being the brightest part of the photo, one's eyes are drawn to it. It's also located close to the "rule of thirds".

Is it possible that the rule of thirds have nothing to do with it???
I think it's an awesome photo. I don't know why, but the dark ground and the bothered horse seem to create an aura of trouble.
It's like an army of orcs is coming in LOTR or a dragon... or I didn't sleep enough and starting to hallucinate.

The white in the background? I believe that would be cloud formations that are lighter in color than the darker clouds further up in the pic....
I looked at this photo for a long time as I edited. Focus, for me, when looking at the photo is not the white clouds between the horse's legs. Its the head of the white horse which is actually in the "thirds" rule and so much more in the foreground that she's "in your face".
I might be way off, but the white clouds actually force focus on the face, not on themselves.
Thanks for pointing it out tho....in a week or so, when I'm over the intial "i like this photo", I might take the brightness down a notch or two.
