Ugggggghhh. As a completely competent computer user (kinda do this for a living after all), I cannot figure this out for the life of me...
I can't seem to get images from picasa to embed in posts here. I have searched for info on how to do this, and have found a couple of threads, namely, http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=292073&highlight=link+to+picasa
I just can't figure out what I'm missing. Having read this thread maybe 200 times, I must be missing something...I still cannot get a hotlink to my pics on picasa. Can someone maybe put it in different words for me? Maybe this will help me figure it out.
Do I need to make changes to the defaults when I click the "Insert Image" button? I have tried both the links from picasa, Paste link in email or IM (which is http://picasaweb.google.com/eastonking/Sunsets/photo#5131003424712685250)
and the "HTML to embed in website" (<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/eastonking/Sunsets/photo#5131003424712685250"><img src="http://lh5.google.com/eastonking/RzT8bfdP9sI/AAAAAAAABEo/w8WZgv0lmIc/s288/IMG_4703no%20edit_1.jpg" /></a>) to no avail.
I would think the latter should work here, but alas, I cannot make it happen. I've also just tried putting in html link here but that doesn't work either.
Can someone please put me out of my misery? Please!:evil::cry:
Thanks in advance!???

I tried something and it obviously did not work. I think that the problem is with Picasa, not you.

I see a question mark (missing image according to safari).
If I try to open the image in a new window, I get a 404 on this link: http://picasaweb.google.com/eastonki...03424712685250 (sic).
Looks like part of the link is substituted by dots?

EWek11,
Well first here is the instructions on how to post a photo on this forum
Images and Avatars, How, Where and Why -=FAQ=- <-- click to see (http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=290249)
Standard HTML codes don't work in this forum (at least with your security level). However you can get your photo to show with or without a link.
Here is my attempt to post your photo to show you how it can be done.
http://lh5.google.com/eastonking/RzT8bfdP9sI/AAAAAAAABEo/w8WZgv0lmIc/s288/IMG_4703no%20edit_1.jpg
The way I did this is to click the Go Advanced button and then click the icon that looks like this http://photography-on-the.net/forum/images/editor/insertimage.gif
then just paste in your http address (in this example I used the one you used in the HTML code http://lh5.google.com/eastonking/RzT8bfdP9sI/AAAAAAAABEo/w8WZgv0lmIc/s288/IMG_4703no%20edit_1.jpg). and that should get your photo posted
If you want your photo to have a link (making it so someone can click on the photo [or text] to open your photo web page. Use the same command as above, when done select all you want to link (photo img command and any text ex. a title) and then click the http://photography-on-the.net/forum/images/editor/createlink.gif icon and paste the HTTP address in the box.

Help that helps :)

One try at a larger size:

:DYea!!! So, I see that the raw link code that is coming out of Picasa needs to be "manipulated" in order to get it to work. Just out of curiosity, why doesn't POTN work with HTML code?
Thanks so much for your help...I was really driving myself nuts, and I couldn't decide if it was just me or not. I appreciate the assistance!:D:D

EWek11,
Glad it worked out :)
HTML code is restricted I believe so spam can't destroy the forum, or users posting illegal items etc.... It also gives the forum owner more control over what happens in his forum. :)

Well, I'm all for that as well. Thanks again so much for your help with this, it was really frustrating. Glad I've got it down pat now. POTN really is such a wonderful resource. Thank you all!

It just crossed my mind that maybe I should post how I actually changed the Picasa link to make it work in case someone comes across this thread for help later on.
So, in Picasa, navigate to the page of the image you want to embed. Once there, click the "Link to this Photo" link which will expand the box and display two options. First, set the size of the image you want to embed (most likely Large-800). THEN, you want to copy the link provided in the "HTML to embed in website" box.
In this example, this produced the following code:
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/eastonking/Sunsets/photo#5131003441892554450"><img src="http://lh5.google.com/eastonking/RzT8cfdP9tI/AAAAAAAABE0/GqGFLSEjUi8/s800/IMG_4705no%20edit_1.jpg" /></a>
To embed at POTN, click the Yellow Square box with the mountain on it
and you need to erase everything from the picasa link EXCEPT:
http://lh5.google.com/eastonking/RzT8cfdP9tI/AAAAAAAABE0/GqGFLSEjUi8/s800/IMG_4705no%20edit_1.jpg
This is the part that POTN cares about and which will embed your image in the post.
This is how I got it to work, at least. If anyone has any other ideas on how to do this more easily, I'd love to hear them as well. This seems like something a greasemonkey script would be perfect for, but that's going to have to wait for now.
Hope this helps!

I was searching myself trying to figure out how to embed from Picasa - followed your directions and voila! - worked like a charm.
My exif info did not carry over in the image yet is available in the Picasa web album through the "more info" link. Anyone have any ideas on how to keep the exif data attached?

The way I finally got Picasa pictures to show up: Right-click on the image and select properties. The first box in the pop-up is "Location". Copy that into the "Insert Image" button pop-up on POTN or simply type '', photo location, ''.
I can't figure out how to get the EXIF data to show up either. I have a feeling it ain't gonna happen from Picasa.
ETA: The image location shows up when selecting 'Properties' when using Firefox. The procedure should be similar if using Internet Explorer but the terms may vary.
