"Order summary: Qty Item Description Item Status

1 Canon EOS 20D 8.2 Megapixel Digital SLR Body"

I called B&H and they blew me off and said they had no part number in their system and couldn't tell me when they would. I called OneCall and they were really friendly and took care of everything.

I'm #32 on the list. I hope they get more than 20 on their first batch!

Blinking there's a wonderful thing these days... it's called Credit Cards willing to give you 0% for 12 months on new purchases and balance transfers, with no accrued interest :)

Isn't that the American way? (No offense if you're not an American!)

I heard Canon might be able to supply them with as many as 30 on their first batch, and a 2nd batch will arrive as early as 6 months later!

You're outright evil

I promised my wife not to get a new camera this year.

I plan to pick mine up around January 2, 2005

Want to see and touch it first, however.

Best regards,
Andy

I'm surprised by how many of us like hamburgers and monkeys. Yes, that was my vote. Now, can someone please explain it to me? I didn't get it.

Aylwin,

as a vegetarian, I don't eat hamburgers. No monkeys, either

So I'm lucky and can maybe spend more on Canon gear...

Best regards,
Andy

No monkeys? I thought everyone ate monkeys. Well, at least they're very popular in our village in the jungle.

Oh no! The evil twisted dude! Please don't kill me!

What about "Monkey Hamburgers"?
They are awesome done up on the george foreman grill.
They totally jive with Atkins!

Is that the "Chet" Atkins diet? I like that one. All the ribs you can eat, mashed 'taters, and of course, plenty of monkey bits!

I just couldn't resist the option to put something a little lighter in there with all the 20D tension in the air ;)

Was there as big a backlog for the 10D when it first came out as when the MkII became available? I notice BH is still backed up with order for the MKII.
I wonder what it will be like for the 20D.
I also wonder how much my 300D will be worth? :(

Canon have a history of not managing to meet customer demand with their new dSLR releases. The D60, 10D, MkII... they were all like rocking horse droppings when they first came out and for some time after. The 10D was still sometimes difficult to get hold of months after it's release. I hope they've got their manufacturing / supply chain sorted out and they can meet demand for the 20D.

Wow, the CF write speed of the 20D is AMAZING.
It actually blows away even the MKII's CF speed!
The fastest CF Raw write speed of the MKII is about 3.9Mb/s
The fastest CF Raw write speed of the 20D is almost 5.7Mb/s!!!!
That's insane!

Cadwell, I have a funny feeling the situation will be the same with the 20D if history tells us anything.
Perhaps they slowly roll them out so the initial batch of buyers are like beta testers. If there is some sort of major flaw, Canon wouldn't have as many cameras to recall. Dunno, just a guess.

Placed my order last week! I've been wanting/waiting to make the jump into a digital SLR and actually had placed the order with B&H for the 300D. I just happened to be surfing around the next day, found this forum, read about the 20D decided it would be the jump I would make!

I'm headed to Tuscany the end of Sept. and have my fingers crossed it'll arrive in time!!

First time I've ever done that for anything!
