I just purchased the 40D--whoo hoo!! However, I put my old 380EX on the new camera, and all my captures look overexposed. I used the 380 with great success on my 20D (all the pics looked great), and I added a lumiquest softbox to bring down the harshness. Are there some special settings in the camera that I'm missing? Your help would be greatly appreciated :)!!

What mode were you shooting in? i have one of these and it should be very easy to use.

You probably need toset flash exposure compensation in-camera to a negative value, keep trying. the 380 EX should work just fine on the 40D.

i would suggest initially have the camera set in P mode, and just let the camera make all the decisions - the 380 Ex doesn't really lend to manual override
