Thanks Mumbles and Eagle....The Mach loop as it's called is a unique place, probably in the world where you can freely photograph these guy's low level training, I was lucky to see the A10's who were over in the UK earlier on in the year, and regularly see F15's on my visits....Peter

Thanks Eagle....unfortunately heavily cropped from original image because the longest lens I have at the moment is a 300mm f4 prime, but I like the backdrop on this shot and the pilot in the Warthog put on abit of a show for us as he flew up the valley....Peter

Those are awesome images!
The 300 f4 prime is certainly sharp - used a friends back in NZ, and was twice as sharp as my favourite 120-300 sigma

That first picture in the second set with the A-10 is one of the best aviation photographs I have ever seen. I wish she had a larger load but you could never have helped that..

Agreed...this one shot is awsome. I would print this and hang it in my house if I took this one. I really envy you UK folks for having an awsome scout point to take these type of shots of the military planes doing low level practice. Loved the series...thanks for sharing.

You should write to the squadron where this plane is from and sell that pilot some prints... her (or hell, she) would pay top dollar for that one...and they would bring it with them to the bar :) they would make a wallet size and it would be placed right over the family pictures in said wallet :)

Thanks Guy's for the comments...much appreciated....unfortunately I think this is an almost fully cropped image from memory...pretty much 800x600 pixels and wouldn't get a great print out of it, but I'll check the orginal

Thanks Wazza....I've been really impressed with the 300mm f4, it's a great lens and a bargain for the $$....not sure on comparison with your sigma, would have to take your word for it, but like you, a friend of mine loves his, would love the f2.8, but that lens is mega $$

Wow, never seen a pic like this before, just the normal front views on the ground or in the deep blue sky. I'd certainly be doing something in my pants if that came towards me on the battlefield.
Cheers

I always convince myself I had a great deal
Was NZ$5099 locally, but bought from B&H, converted and shipped for around $3200 (US$2099) I think it was. Much cheaper, just shows how much cheaper USA is to NZ and UK

Tubthumper, there are a couple of places in Scotland you could visit
http://lowfly.net/21.html Lossiemouth or Scotish borders if you want to give it a go, but it's not for the impatient, unfortunately a lot of hanging around getting cold, I mainly go March to October before you lose the light, haven't done managed to get to Scotland yet, but it's a plan for next year, or there's the Lakes, which is abit closer http://lowfly.net/10.html

The Mach Loop is a name given to the area by the pilots. The Wales low level training area is known as low fly 7 and consists of arteries of valleys joining together and forming a large roundabout north of Machalynyth hence the name Mach loop. The loop strictly speaking is not part of low fly area 7. Look for Machalynyth, Dolgellau, Corris corner or the Tally llyn pass on the map and you have basically found the area

No need to pay that even in the UK, I just bought one for £2700 from AJ Purdy.

This needs to be on a movie poster or the cover of a Video Game.
That is just one epic epic shot. I would be too concerned about crapping myself to actually take the shot.
Awesome work.

Like motorsports, lens choice is important.....you need a good lens. Because of the conditions in the UK, although a great lens the 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 lens which a large number of people use, will not get you great images all the time, lenses of choice is either the sigma 120-300mm f2.8 or canon 300mm f2.8 prime. Panning Technique is also important, and does take time to master. The mistake most people make when doing this, is trying to capture different shots (long shot, panned shot, zoomed shot, or head on shot), unfortunately you don't have time.....these guys are not easy to spot in the terrain and are travelling around 600mph.
Location, location, location! :) Snowdonia National Park, near Dolgellau, Wales, or Borders in Scotland, or The Lake District. check out www.lowfly.net (http://www.lowfly.net)

Ah the Spang A10s!! They were based at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk during their stay, and many of the pilots stayed in the pub which is my families local...shared many a breakfast with them before they went off for their daily duties...awesome guys and awesome planes!!
