View Full Version : Is my website overkill?

Can you guys please tell me if you think my site is too much? I have galleries for all different parts of my family and archives of the kids. I know it's great that I have the space to do it, but would this just confuse you as a user? I'm tempted to just ditch most of it and have one "Latest Photos" gallery or something. Seems like the dates can be off, too, since some were taken with my Powershot when the kids were babies. Thanks for your input.
Oh yeah - this is a family website - not a professional one!

Do you mean your Smugmug page that is linked from your signature section?
If so, I think it is fine as it is. Not confusing at all, and it's a good way to organize things. You could even expand the 'All The Rest' section and have separate galleries for the categories that you have listed for that section.

Thanks Mike. It just seems to be a bit much with all the extended family stuff, lol. That's the way it goes I guess though.

No, considering the following:

And I don't even have to look at it to tell you that. ;)

Hi Mum! I noticed on ur website photos of the home being built by Pulte. Is that right by the Turner Creek school?

Looks fine to me. But my opinion doesn't matter. (And, really, neither does Mike's, or Tony's, or cdifoto's, or glowie's, or Julian's.) What does matter is the opinion of the people for whom this is set up - your family, presumably. Why not ask them what they think?

Your website is far from being overkill. Take a look at my smugmug site. I have 3245 images in 91 galleries...

I don't think it's overkill. I have family pics on my ExpMan site. That allows my family in other parts of the country to view our family photos. I've gotten quite a bit of positive feedback from my family about it. I do have my family pics either password protected or as private galleries. I don't think that the general public needs to see all the pics of my family, though. Keep doing what you're doing. After all, it's your site.;)

My two cents, I'd subdivide the individual family galleries a little more. Xmas at Gramas, trip to the zoo, vacation, etc. Having huge numbers of diverse photos in the same album makes them hard to view, and harder to find a certain picture. As you've said before, those on a dial up may not want to wait for 400 pictures to load, but by subdividing, might be only 30.
