Anybody found some more sample images? What about a CR2 (RAW) file from the 20D? (Probably the current RAW converters can't open it yet, unless Canon finally got smart and didn't invent a separate RAW format for each camera....).

All the reputable reviewers are under and NDA order not to release any images untill later in August...

We'll have to wait a spell I think.

3 low ISO (100-200) images shot with a 50/1.4 lens. They are all JPEGs and the in camera processing parameters are not specified. The image of a model is soft but sharpens up nicely with standard processing. The skin tones are good.

The 8 MP image size (3504x2336) definitely puts more strain on the CPU. For instance, running Neat Image (which the images don't really require) added about 50% to processing time (from about 20s to 30s).

As usual with these Canon released images - nothing really learned about the capabilities of the camera. There is one moderately long night exposure which I haven't looked at yet.

BTW -- the serial number of the camera was -000000001. :P Who gets 000000000 and 000000001.

I also think that the hair looks quite soft for a 1.4/50 at f/11 ... pity they didn't post RAW images, so you can try out the USM from the base picture yourself.

So ... is this sufficient to start the rumor that the 20D is a 'soft' camera

Best regards,
Andy

Provided your software can read RAW images from the 20D..... :?

Crop from the first sample at 100%

Looked like a flaw from the CMOS sensor.

That's a reflection (specular highlight) that shows up all the time in images shot with flash or under hot lights. There are hundreds of them on this image - see the back of the neck where they partially coalesce.

It is not a hot, dead or stuck pixel.

But let's keep looking - there are probably other problems with the image.
:P

Aaargh! The 20D's sensor is bad! Don't buy it! Lots of 20D's have crippled sensors! Must be because they've crammed too many pixels on the sensor!

I'm sure the 20D is going to have its own share of Internet fables about big engineering mistakes, fundamental flaws etc., just like many other cameras have.
