what am I looking at - was it dropped in the liquid by hand or have you flash frozen it as it travels at 1000' per second?

A .308" or 7.62mm projectile fired at approx 2900 fps (or 884mps) muzzle velocity, would travel over 4", (or 110mm) in 1/8000 sec, which is the limit of most cameras. However, you would have to have to make a very accurate guess when to fire the shutter, wouldn't you?, and then all you get is a streak.
If I may suggest, next time you try this shot, find a projectile that has been fired, so that it has rifling on the casing, not the plier marks used to remove the bullet from the cartridge, as this detracts from the photo, and is a dead giveaway that it is a set-up.
