I recently came upon this paper called "Canon Photo Paper Plus (Semi-gloss)".
It has a nice semi-gloss matt type finish and the paper is pretty thick (it also has "Canon" stamped all across the back of the paper. I think it's aimed at the "art" enthusiast as it has more artistic images plastered across the cover of the package.
Anyhow, I was told that it was relatively new and it had a nice finish so I decided to give it a go. The only thing is, I can't find a paper media type setting for it in my printer menu.
I'm using an S9000 and I'm guessing the "high resolution paper" setting is the nearest match.
Does anyone have any experience with this paper and what paper setting do you use? Also, is there anywhere I can update Canon's list of papers in the printer settings menu to include this paper?

I don't have the s9000 so I can't offer you any direct help but have you tried downloading the latest s9000 driver from Canon's website? I'm not even sure if there is anything newer than what you already have installed but I just wanted to mention it.

Are you using Canon's Easy Photo Print that comes with the printer? It has Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy to choose from in the paper index. I'd be quite sure to use that. The only differnece is glossy/semi-gloss.

Thanks PacAce and Conk!
I downloaded the latest driver I could find but it didn't list that new paper. Oh well, I'll probably stick with the Photo Paper Plus Glossy setting since the results I got look fine.
Thanks again.

I have a 9000 and the semi-gloss is not listed. Staying with the PPPGlossy setting is probably the best bet.
Canon typically comes out with new types and sizes or paper, but does not update the older model drivers to support them. Seems to be their wa of forcing you to upgrade to a new printer every 9 months.
I am still PO'd that my s9000 does not print on 5x7 paper. Canon told me that the s9000 cannot print on 5x7 - to do that I have to buy a newer model.

There should be a custom paper size in the driver that you could set to 5x7.

I hear you about the upgrades but I'm not sure I will. Even though I really like the color output I'm getting with this Canon setup I’ve been tempted to switch to Epson.
It seems there is more flexibility with that system in terms of paper / ink (B&W) and profiles to match. That and real archival quality are big selling points for me as I'm not overly concerned about speed.
At this point I’m just going to run through my existing stock of Canon paper and inks before I make a decision. Hopefully I’ll be able to find someone who has an Epson system setup so I can really assess the results before I buy.

In Hoc,
Yes there _should_ be. I failed to mention that I have a Mac system. On that platform at least, the s9000 drivers do not support custom paper sizes either. So you are stuck with the limited paper size options provided by Canon. (Not only sizes, but the drivers will only let you select certain types of paper in each size)
According to Canon, there are no plans to upgrade older drivers. The only way to get the newer drivers (which do support 5x7 - I am not sure about custom paper sizes) is to get a new printer.
I wrote to Canon customer service expressing my dissatifaction with this policy, especially considering the quick timeframe in which newer models were released and older ones discountinued. No response. A friend gave me the name of a VP there whom I also wrote to. He responded saying that he was passing my letter on to the appropriate VP and that both would follow-up shortly. Several months later, I am still waiting for a response.
That being said, I do love my s9000. Crazy fast, ultra-quiet and beautiful prints. If it wasn't for the way I felt I was jerked around over the drivers, I just might consider upgrading to a 9900. But that, and Canon's lack of ability to print on CD/DVD has me seriously looking at an Epson R800. (I would keep to Canon for the occassional large format print)
