Yes, that's right. I GOT MY DIGITAL REBEL.

Well, today is my birthday and my wife decided to suprise me by making sure that I had something nice to photograph the event.

So far, my impressions are that I LOVE IT.

Well, enough chatter, I got pictures to take.

note: I am certain she got if for me because she is sick of hearing me blabber on and on and on about the DRebel. But hey, who am I to complain

Happy birthday Chris. Enjoy the new toy. :D Does you wife realize that she's opened a can of worms? A new Rebel needs accessories, lots and lots.

Happy birthday, Chris!

You have a nice wife.
You also have a cute son, judging from your gallery. 8)

Best regards,
Andy

Congratulations, Chris.

Getting old isn't easy, but a nice present like that cerainly eases the pain. Good luck with the camera, and let's see some of those shots.

Thanks for the warm words.. er warnings. LOL.

I spent the entire day taking pictures, wow, what a big difference between the S50, unbelievable how solid the camera feels. The shots have come up pretty good, I need to sort through them to see if there are any keepers.

I also got a circular polarizer, and have played a bit with that. so much to learn.

Ya, the wife is pretty great considering she has been sneaking around with a Digital Rebel in her possession for nearly a week. :)

Thanks again for all the advice and the help up to now, we will definately see what the future brings

I started out early last year buying video equipment in order to video weddings. Ever since then my wife just looks around to see if any new boxes are laying about. She didn't even flinch when I recently got my 10D. My daddy taught me "When dealing with your wife. . . it's easier to get forgiven than to get permission".

Congrad Chris. I got myself the same B'day present last Month and had since bought:

512MB, 1GB, Sigma EF 500 DG Super (because the Canon version was $100 more), and on-the-run CDR backup electronic wallet.

And today I bought a 28-300mm lense.

This is just the start of a bad obsession.

Good Luck and happy Shooting.

Welcome! I love mine, but I'm an old film guy. It's not perfect, but if you accept the limitations, you'll have a lot of fun with it. Oh, & try to ignore any post with "L" in it!

If you want extra batteries, This store has 1500mah Bp-511's for $25US, and when you buy one you get one free! Free shipping, too!

Thanks for the info.

Batteries are definately a must have item, especially with all the pics I am taking.

I am hunting down the swap shops to see if they have any lenses there that I can practice with, I have seen the price of these things and if I find something that is good I will most likely pick them up. Thankfully I also have a friend who is really deep into photography as well and she has all sorts of lenses and filters that fit my camera, so I will most likely be stopping by and borrowing a few of hers :)

Thanks again. I will post pics when I get a few that I am proud of.

hey Chris, happy birthday (a day late).
Nooow....
To help you plan your future investments: in order to cover the entire range of focal lenths, you need the following:
Canon 16-35L, Canon 24-70L, Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L IS, Canon 100-400 L IS, and a Canon 500mm prime, just in case.

I don't want you posting here until you have the lenses mentioned above.

j/k, Chris... enjoy your camera (I'm enjoying mine a lot) and post some cool candids from your birthday party.

Happy Birthday and welcome to the dslr club. A serious word of warning - if you think the Rebel is solid, and I think it is, don't EVER let a 1D MkII get into your hands. Just look at how great your pictures and forget about solid.
